Notizen: Abstract A closed system of equations for the nonequilibrium pair-distribution function is given which corresponds to the mean spherical approximation (MSA) in equilibrium. The electrophoretic contribution to the conductance is calculated exactly in the framework of the MSA. For the calculation of the remaining contributions the equilibrium distribution function due to Henderson and Smith was used. The final expressions for the conductance are given in analytic terms using the restricted primitive model. The calculated curves are in good agreement with experimental data for 1-1 electrolytes up to about 1 M and qualitatively show the right behaviour up to rather high concentrations.

Notizen: Abstract From the basic equations for the pair distribution function in nonequilibrium, solution methods are elaborated. It is verified that the distribution functions depend on conductance coefficients, which lead to feedback loop or echo effects. For explicit calculation the strong-coupling approximation for distances smaller than the Bjerrum distance proves to be practical and efficient. It can be applied to any Hamiltonian models for the system without complicated mathematics. A method of deriving information concerning the Gurney cosphere overlap effects is presented.

Notizen: Abstract Starting from hierarchy of diffusion equations for the distribution functions in coordinate space, the general theory of conductance is developed and applied to Gurney-Friedman models for ion-ion interactions. The interaction potentials used consist of a hard core with Pauling radii and a Gurney cosphere with a steplike interaction law converging to the Coulomb law outside the Gurney sphere. For the simplest case of step potentials explicit formulas for the conductivity are given. For higher concentrations an integral equation corresponding to the mean-spherical approximation in equilibrium is proposed. The theory is compared with experimental data for 17 alkali halide electrolytes by fitting the Gurney parameters. It is shown that the variant of the theory which includes the feedback of the relaxation and electrophoretic forces describes also the data for associating 2-2 electrolytes.

Notizen: Abstract Reaction-diffusion systems show a fast and rather complex response on patterns produced by external space- and/or time-dependent perturbations. For example, one-component autocatalytic reactions rapidly find the loci where the given space-dependent reaction rates have relatively high values by following a kind of Darwinian strategy (combining self-reproduction and diffusion). It is shown that a simulation of this strategy in combination with annealing (decreasing the diffusion rates in time) may be used as an alternative to thermodynamic annealing strategies. Many-component reactions, such as the light-sensitive Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction, show a more complex response to patterns impressed by illumination, for example. The response behavior and possible applications to dynamic information processing are discussed.
