Notes:
Summary A method for the determination of ammonia in sea water by means of a hypobromite oxydation to bromoammine and successive reaction with iodide starch is presented. The method is rapid, sensitive, and direct and may be applied for manual or automatic determination of ammonia in sea water. The law of Lambert and Beer is obeyed up to 15 μgat/l. The standard deviation within that range is ±3.3% for the manual and ±4.5% for the automatic procedure. The maximum deviations between added and found ammonia are 0.09 and 0.07 μgat/l, respectively. 20 samples per hour may be analyzed with the automatic determination.
