Abstract: Abstract This paper addresses Worker’s Health scientific production, specifically about how the Journal Ciência & Saúde Coletiva has contributed to the consolidation of this field. This is a qualitative and descriptive study based on a review of the Journal’s collection from 1996 to 2019. We selected a final sample of 156 texts organized by thematic groups. The theme was designed with the predominance of Epidemiological and Public Policy studies, studies of a theoretical-methodological nature and related to World of Work Transformations. Approximately 60% of publications are concentrated in the 2009-2015 period. A significant decline in the number of works was observed as of 2016. The papers address Worker’s Health in a comprehensive and diversified manner. There is a greater emphasis on research on work and environment, health issues, formulation and implementation of policies and programs. The journal significantly contributes to the national Worker’s Health. Strengthening academic production in this field remains a challenge, especially in the face of the loss of rights.

Abstract: This project rescues a brief essay titled “Infamia y vandalismo” by José Revueltas. The text was issued in November 1944 in the main medium of publication of the Mexican-Russian Institute of Cultural Exchange: the journal Cultura Soviética. “Infamia y vandalismo” is a text of political nature, which celebrates the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany and illustrates one of the arguments insistently repeated by the Soviet politburo: that communism represented peace and culture, while Nazism promoted destruction and barbarism. The significance of this text relies on the implications that it has in relation to the context of its time (the end of World War II), thus bringing forth a period of Revueltas’s life and of the antifascist and pro-Stalinist left somewhat forgotten nowadays. In other words, this essay can help us to partially reconstruct the intellectual trajectory of the great Mexican writer. The introduction reviews the main elements that should be considered alongside “Infamia y vandalismo” in order to grasp its relevance in the cultural landscape of the moment and in relation to Revueltas’s personal growth: the Institute of Mexican-Russian Cultural Exchange and the journal Cultura Soviética, the atmosphere of ideological confrontation prior to the beginning of the Cold War, as well as the political itinerary of Revueltas in relation to the Mexican Communist Party and other left-wing formations.

Abstract: The second half of the twentieth century saw the emergence of organizations that reflected the mobilization of civil society for more effective participation in questions in the public interest and of a social nature. These became known as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and they assumed their place as partners with public and private sectors to develop actions in different areas, including healthcare. Based on a review of the literature, the scope of this paper was to assess the status of scientific knowledge on the participation of NGOs in child healthcare and, by identifying and classifying their activities, establish if they are in line with the agenda of the field. Analysis of the publications took into consideration where the authors were from, the journal in question, the origins and area of activity of the NGOs and the source of the funds applied to the projects implemented. The nature of activities varied with the degree of development of the region where the NGOs operated and the themes, partnership between government and private sector agencies, sustainability and impact of actions on the favored communities were the main topics highlighted by the authors. The conclusion reached was that the performance of NGOs in child health is in the early stages and is a knowledge field to be explored.

Abstract: Abstract An integrative literature review (ILR) was conducted to identify the relationship between humanitarian logistics and the development of the COVID-19 pandemic based on research in the SCOPUS, MEDLINE and ENEGEP databases in April and May 2022. In all, 61 articles were evaluated according to the following criteria: original article or review of literature published in a scientific journal; abstract and full text available; article on humanitarian logistics in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. The resulting sample comprised eleven publications organized and analyzed through a synthesis matrix, where 72% were published in international journals and mostly in 2021 (56%). The presence of the supply chain defines the course of action of economic and social sectors, which in turn determine, by means of an interdisciplinary approach, humanitarian operations in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The lack of studies narrows down humanitarian logistics to mitigate the impacts caused by these disasters, both in the context of the current pandemic and in future events of the same nature. However, as a global emergency, it suggests the need to increase scientific knowledge on the subject of humanitarian logistics related to disaster events.

Abstract: During the first half of 2020, the novel coronavirus —a biological entity invisible to the human eye— was represented in multiple images, audiovisual products, descriptions, narratives and other modes of visual and verbal articulation. Many of these were developed by international organizations, governments and media outlets, amongst other social actors, with the aim of rendering the threat posed by the virus more tangible. At the same time, these representations also helped shape how people made sense of it in cognitive and emotional terms. Assuming that social reality is constructed in multiple and dynamic processes and interactions that imply the production, distribution and consumption of meaning at various levels, this article examines from a semiotic perspective one of the modes of representations of the coronavirus during the COVID-19 pandemic: the one grounded on the overarching narrative that depicted the virus as an evil enemy that poses a threat to humanity and that, consequently, needs to be fought. The article organizes the study of a number of representations of the coronavirus in three levels —the iconic, the axiological and the narrative— and discusses how the discursive construction of an enemy involves a series of mechanisms of semiotic nature that, besides somehow representing it, also shape its social construction.   *This article was originally published in 2020, in English, under the title "From a Biological Entity to a Social Monster. A Semiotic Construction of the Coronavirus During the Covid-19 Pandemic," in the Italian journal Fuori Luogo, 7(1), pp. 105-115. DOI https://doi.org/10.6092/2723-9608/7041. The translation from English to Spanish —which is unchanged from the original version, except for the addition of new bibliographic entries— was done by the author.

In: Earth Sciences Research Journal, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Vol. 19, No. 2 ( 2015-12-17), p. 95-96
Abstract: 〈 p 〉 Earth Sciences Research Journal presents its latest issue, Volume 19, number 2, with a positive balance in the eve of 2016 and with the challenges for the future editions. During the last two decades, we have published more than 200 papers in all the spectrum of Earth Sciences. We expect we will be here for many years more. ESRJ is now part of international databases, and we hope to improve our numbers thanks to the tireless word we do every day for our readers. We have accomplished the principal objectives for an international publication -punctuality in our volumes, respect for the authors and the spotlight on the scientific quality. For a fair editorial process, we are part of the open access and its policies of pair blind-review. The time of the operations has been reduced, and the international participation increased. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 For the coming years, ESRJ would reach a better visibility thanks to the publication of top-quality scientific articles, which allows us to be part of the central positions in international databases and providing researchers with fundamental elements of their work. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 To make possible this goal, we want to call authors to put lights on scientific quality and editorial quality. Your help is essential for us. We want to encourage researchers to pick up ESRJ as a platform for their works, but also to check the authors' guidelines as a first step to saving efforts and time during processes. Needles to say the importance of manuscript parts, English level and images readability to the acceptation of submissions. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 As a complementary strategy, we would like to invite our authors to create profiles in one of the available platforms, not only as an introduction to the ESRJ editorial team but also as a promotion of your work. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 Several challenges we have gripped during the work of the last years, for that reason we have adopted the principles of ethic and best practices in our procedure protocols. This decision would be a tool giving papers’ authors a warranty of complete respect for their work and to readers a quality signature that our contents have been verified for their use. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 In this adoption of best-practices procedures, many submitted papers have been rejected for having a not proper citation; this fault needs to be eradicated from all journals promoting scientific contents. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 A glimpse of the numbers of ESRJ points the international collaboration as one of the biggest challenges for the future issues. International Collaboration accounts for the articles that have been produced by researchers from several countries. It's not a call to improve the rates, but the scientific quality would be feed for the interaction of researchers facing different realities. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 Early 2016, ESRJ will publish a special issue with the selected papers of the International Conference on Earth and Environmental Sciences by the University Malaya. This special issue on Frontiers in Earth Sciences will publish articles on the most outstanding discoveries across a broad research spectrum in the field. The mission of Frontiers in Earth Sciences is to provide an introduction to some of the current advanced concepts, problems, and controversies that are at the forefront of Earth Sciences and to obtain a view of how the different parts of the Earth behave and interact. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 As it has been a costume in this letter from the editor, the following paragraphs will introduce the works of the current issue. Our first paper deals with the problem of recovering Moho surface from satellite gradiometry data considering the non-isostatic corrections. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 The second manuscript presents a case study on the application of electromagnetic and GPR measurements to a suspicious metal-contaminated site. While subsurface pollution is very harmful to nature-beings and finally human, detection of its extent in surface and more in depth is considerably challenging. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 The following work analyzes the Earthquake light phenomenon based in the Christchurch earthquakes occurred in 2010 and 2011, with testimonies related from people who observed or recorded the lights. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 In the seismotectonic field is presented a paper showing the Strain rate in the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ), that is one of the most important fault zones of Turkey. Another Turkish submission tried to determine seismic specifications of the Bitlis province in Lake Van basin and used probabilistic seismic hazard analysis for the determination of local site-specific spectra. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 Also from Turkey, a paper examines the performance of a single base RTK station compared with similar systems and presenting a complete exposure of values and challenges of the system. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 A contribution from Iran analyzes the magmatic evolution and compositional characteristics of tertiary volcanic rocks associated with the manganese mineralization in a mine located in Central Iran. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 Also from in Iran, a paper assesses the stability of the rock slopes with various rock mass qualities. The manuscript discusses the combination of RMR and SMR systems to evaluate rock slope stability. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 From Latin America, a paper makes a contribution to the knowledge of the Tatui Formation, in Brazil, emphasized in Paleontology and Paleoenvironmental considerations. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 We hope you find useful these contents. 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 Carlos Vargas 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 Editor in Chief, 〈 /p 〉 〈 p class="MsoNormal" 〉 Earth Sciences Research Journal. 〈 /p 〉
