    Notizen: Abstract Muon spin rotation (μ +SR) measurement provides clear evidence of the antiferromagnetic order of Cu moments below 35 K for La2−x Ba x CuO4 and below 15 K for La2−x Sr x CuO4 in the narrow range ofx where the high-T c superconductivity (SC) is suppressed remarkably. The results suggest that the change of the electronic state coupled with the lattice instability is relevant to the local suppression of SC and freezing of spin fluctuations of the Cu moment.

    Notizen: Abstract Hole doped high-Tc oxide of TlBa2Y1−xCaxCu2Oy, Tl-1212, has been investigated by μ+ SR technique from an insulating to a superconducting (SC) region. Fast and slow precession components of the muon spin asymmetry which are due to an antiferromagnetic (AF) ordering of Ce-spins were observed from x=0 to x=0.5. The magnetic transition temperature (about 400 K) and local μ+ fields were found to have no x-dependence. No sign of the magnetic transition was observed for x=1.0 down to 1.8 K. The correlation between the AF ordered state and the SC state at the boundary of the two states (x=0.6) was examined.

    Notizen: Abstract In order to study the “ $$\frac{1}{8}$$ effect” in different high-T c oxides from the La-system, muon spin relaxation measurements were applied to the Zn-substituted Bi-2212 system, Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca 1−x Y x (Cu 1−y Zn y ) 2 O 8+δ , around the hole concentration p= $$\frac{1}{8}$$ per Cu. It has been revealed that the magnetic correlation between Cu spins is anomalously enhanced in the Zn-substituted samples at $$p \sim \frac{1}{8}$$ per Cu, proving the existence of the “ $$\frac{1}{8}$$ effect" in the Bi-2212 system as well.

Recently, remarkable success was marked for ultra-slow μ+, while a promising test result was obtained for ultra-slow μ−. The ultimate future of these beams is considered. A possible large-scale application to an eventual μ+μ− collider is discussed.

    Notizen: Abstract The site diluted finite spin cluster system Rb2CO x Mg1−x F4 (x=0.15, 0.4, 0.5) has been investigated by the μ+SR technique. Muon spin relaxation was observed in these diluted magnetic systems in a weak longitudinal field of 100 G. By reducing temperature below 100 K, the experimental data show features of slowing down phenomena of the Co electron moments in the finite spin clusters.

    Notizen: Abstract In order to shed new light on the initial loss of muon spin polarization, or socalled “missing fraction”, which is commonly observed in non-metallic solids, we have studied muon-induced excitation in various alkali halides by measuring the luminescences associated with the radiative decay of the self-trapped excitons (STE). The result strongly suggests that the spin-exchange interaction between muonium and muon radiolysis products including STE's causes fast muon depolarization in those materials.

    Notizen: Abstract Magnetic properties of TlBa2Y1-xCaxCu2Oy which is one of the hole‐doped high‐TC superconducting (SC) oxides were investigated by zero‐field μ+SR. Two precession frequencies of the muon spin were observed for x=0, indicating the existence of a coherent long range antiferromagnetic ordered state of Cu‐spins. The saturated internal fields at the muon sites, Hint, was 170 Oe and 23 Oe, respectively and magnetic transition temperature, TN, was about 400 K. Both Hint and TN show no x‐dependence up to x=0.5. No sign of the magnetic ordered state was observed in the SC state for x=1.0 down to 1.8 K.

    Notizen: Abstract The resonance technique has been applied to observe diamagnetic muons and, for the first time by the resonance, Mu-substituted radicals in organic liquids under strong decoupling magnetic fields. In benzoquinone solutions in benzene the relaxation of Mu-cyclohexadienyl radicals through reaction with quinone was directly observed by the radical resonance technique. The product of this reaction was then observed by the diamagnetic muon resonance as a slow formation. Similar slow formation was observed for diamagnetic muons in neat CS2 and for Mu-radicals in benzene and styrene. Such slow formation can never be observed by the rotation technique due to dephasing problem, and thus the previous method is expected to provide new source of information on slow reaction dynamics of muon containing species.

    Notizen: Abstract Muon spin rotation (μSR) is applied to La2−x Ba x CuO4 aroundx=0.12 where the superconductivity (SC) is suppressed remarkably. The magnetic ordering of Cu-moments appears below 35 K in the narrow range ofx where a lattice instability from the low temperature orthorhombic (LTO) to the low-temperature tetragonal (LTT) structure exists. The present study suggests strongly that the magnetic ordering of Cu-moments is an important factor in the suppression of high-T c superconductivity aroundx=0.12 in La2−x Ba x CuO4. Similar results are obtained for the La2−x Sr x CuO4 and La2−x−y Sr x Nd y CuO4 systems.
