Notes: Abstract. This research note presents a simple urban model of the Chinese two-tier plan/market economy, and investigates the equilibrium and optimum by comparison with a standard urban model of the market economy. We show that the Chinese urban economy has a possibility of being out of equilibrium and becoming unstable when the amount of land assigned by the government to firms is too much relative to the labor assigned to them. Furthermore, the model indicates that, while the Chinese urban economy would have a greater total differential land rent than the market economy, the Chinese urban residents would be worse off in terms of their earned wage income.

Notes: In this paper, I model a simple hierarchical inter-urban system in which the location of business firms is considered together with the determination of residential land-use patterns. By supposing a spatial externality between the business firms and all the residents of the region, three spatial structures are obtained: monocentricity, multicentricity, and a separate pattern where cities are spatially split with an agricultural land existing between them. It is also shown that the spatial structures of monocentric and multicentric patterns formed by the market principle tend to be more concentrated than the optimum.

Notes: Static shear-rheology for self-made semi-solid AZ91D magnesium alloy slurry wasstudied by using the tester and a universal electronic machine. Shear-stress along with cylindricalsurface in the sample was produced by using the tester and then shear-rheologic deformationhappened. It showed that on the condition of the same loading, the longer the loading time andholding time were, the larger the deforming rate was. When the holding time attained a certainvalue, small grains acquired enough energy to grow up or amalgamate with prolonging the holdingtime and coarse grains started to melt from intergranular or grain boundaries, but the criticalshear-stress kept a constant. The sample didn’t flow but appeared to instantaneous shear-strains withstarting to load. When the loading exceeded the critical value, the sample started to flow and hadthe phenomena of elastic after-working, elastic before-working and remained deformation. Therheologic characteristics of semi-solid AZ91D magnesium alloy were expressed by the five elementmechanical model: H1—(N1/H2)—(N2/S)

Notes: In the process of metal plastic forming severe plastic deformations occur to the workpiece. As a result the constitutive relations between material and geometry are nonlinear. One of the mostcommon tools to solve such problems is the finite element method. In thixoforming processes ofsemi-solid metal many factors affect thixoforming fluidity. Therefore it is important to simplify theproblem and predict the metal flow properties. For that reason the thixoforming process of semi-solidAZ91D magnesium alloy was modeled with the theory of rigid viscoplastic finite element methodusing the commercial finite element software DEFORM-3DTM. The fluid and effective stress-strainfields in the thixoforming process were obtained and the relationships among stress, strain rate andtemperature were analyzed

Notes: Abstract Two sets of trial functions with different variables are constructed for the admissible space of the finite element analysis. The trial functions satisfy the equilibrium differential equation inside elements, while the deflections and rotations on the edges of the elements are approximated by the Peano hierarchical interpolation functions. Then, a generalized variational principle is applied to set up the p-version hybrid analytical finite element method for plate bending problems. The accuracy of finite element computation can be improved by increasing the order of the interpolation polynomials with fixed mesh. In the finite element formulation, to obtain the stiffness matrices and the load vectors, it is only necessary to perform quadrature over the edges of the elements. These matrices and vectors possess an embedding structure. The conformability between the elements can be controlled automatically.
