Notes: In the process of metal plastic forming severe plastic deformations occur to the workpiece. As a result the constitutive relations between material and geometry are nonlinear. One of the mostcommon tools to solve such problems is the finite element method. In thixoforming processes ofsemi-solid metal many factors affect thixoforming fluidity. Therefore it is important to simplify theproblem and predict the metal flow properties. For that reason the thixoforming process of semi-solidAZ91D magnesium alloy was modeled with the theory of rigid viscoplastic finite element methodusing the commercial finite element software DEFORM-3DTM. The fluid and effective stress-strainfields in the thixoforming process were obtained and the relationships among stress, strain rate andtemperature were analyzed

Notes: Static shear-rheology for self-made semi-solid AZ91D magnesium alloy slurry wasstudied by using the tester and a universal electronic machine. Shear-stress along with cylindricalsurface in the sample was produced by using the tester and then shear-rheologic deformationhappened. It showed that on the condition of the same loading, the longer the loading time andholding time were, the larger the deforming rate was. When the holding time attained a certainvalue, small grains acquired enough energy to grow up or amalgamate with prolonging the holdingtime and coarse grains started to melt from intergranular or grain boundaries, but the criticalshear-stress kept a constant. The sample didn’t flow but appeared to instantaneous shear-strains withstarting to load. When the loading exceeded the critical value, the sample started to flow and hadthe phenomena of elastic after-working, elastic before-working and remained deformation. Therheologic characteristics of semi-solid AZ91D magnesium alloy were expressed by the five elementmechanical model: H1—(N1/H2)—(N2/S)
