Abstract:
This study examined university students’ levels of smartphone addiction according to several variables. The study surveyed 1241 students studying at a university in the Central Black Sea region in the 2018-2019 academic year. The data were collected using the Smartphone Addiction Scale and a Personal Information Form. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference between male and female students in their mean scores on the daily-life disturbance and tolerance subscales. Those whose parents hold a high school or above had a higher mean score on the overuse subscale. A statistically significant positive linear relationship was found between smartphone addiction scores, the duration of smartphone usage, and the amount of pocket money. There was however no linear relationship between smartphone addiction scores and age.
