Abstract:
An overly steep west‐to‐east upward tilt in the climatological thermocline of the tropical Indian Ocean persists in latest climate models The overly steep thermocline tilt leads to overly high sea surface temperature variability in the southeastern equatorial Indian Ocean The bias in the tilt limits its further incline under greenhouse warming, leading to an under‐projected increase in SST variability
