Description / Table of Contents:
Scientific fundamentals for the design of contact driers for coarse particle flowable materials - state of the art. Drying curves are a fundamental prerequisite for the design of contact driers. Analysis of measured drying curves for coarse particle flowable, mechanically mixed material shows that the heat transfer between the contact heating area, thermal conduction in the bulk material, and the intensity of mixing of the material being dried determine the external drying conditions for the individual particle of the material being dried. Together with the drying curve of the individual particle they afford the drying curve of the mechanically mixed bulk material. It is shown which physical quantities involved can nowadays be calculated, which have to be determined from case to case, and how measurements and calculations can be combined to permit design of contact driers with a minimum of experimental effort.
Notes:
