Abstract: This preliminary study presents first data on organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) concentrations in water and sediment samples of Devolli River. It is located in Southeast Albania, in Korca field, which is the second agricultural area in Albania. Sampling stations water of Devolli River were selected in eight different stations, starting from its stream (Gramozi Mountain) to the end of Korca field, near Banja hydropower (Gramshi region). Sampling of water and sediments were done in the same stations, in December 2018. Pesticides were used in the past in this area for many years mainly for agricultural purposes. Also, basin of Devolli River is affected from industrial activity and urban pollution, too. Water irrigation and rainfall contribute on their transport from soil to underground and surface waters. Organochlorine pesticides and PCB are very stable compounds that can be found in the environment for many years after their application. Liquid-liquid extraction was used for isolation of OCPs and PCBs in water samples while ultrasonic extraction was used for their extraction in sediment samples. The simultaneous analysis of organochlorine pollutants in water samples was performed by gas chromatography technique using electron capture detector (GC/ECD). Rtx-5 capillary column (30 m x 0.33 mm x 0.25 um) was used for separation of 17 organochlorine pesticides according EPA 8081A and 7 PCB markers. Relatively high concentrations of organochlorine pesticides were detected in water and sediment samples of Devolli River compare with other rivers of Albania. Their presence can be due to their previous use in Korca field. Volatile PCBs were found in higher concentration in water samples because of atmospheric deposition. Levels of some individual pesticides in surface water samples of Devolli River were found to be higher than permitted levels according to Albania and EU norms. Responsible authorities should be done continues monitoring in water samples of this river.

Abstract: In this study, levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), aliphatic hydrocarbons (n-alkanes) and volatile hydrocarbons were determined in water samples of the port of Vlora which is the second largest port in Albania. It is located in Vlora Bay, near Vlora city. Presence of these pollutants in port area is mainly because of ships transport, commercial/passengers processing and the water currents in-side/out-side the port area. Hydrocarbons (PAHs, n-alkanes and BTEX) are generated mainly by the transport (automobiles, ships, trains, etc), extracting/processing of oil industry, coal mine and other industries. Forest burning and their natural background make them very often in environment. Water samples were taken in May 2022 in different stations of the Vlora's port (inside and outside its area). Aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons were extracted simultaneously using two steps liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) technique. Firstly, dichloromethane (MeCl2) and after that n-hexane were used as extraction solvents. After extraction, the organic phase was dried with sodium sulfate anhydrous, for water removing. "Clean-up" procedure was realized in an alumina column. After the concentration to 2 ml, the samples were injected in Varian 450 GC equipped with FID detectors. BTEX were analyzed using head space solid phase micro-extraction technique (HS/SPME) by using polydimethylsiloxane fiber (PDMS) followed by GC/FID technique. PAH, n-alkanes and BTEX were found almost in all water samples of Vlora's port. Their presence could be because of anthropogenic factors (elevated activity and ship transport) in the port area. The levels of hydrocarbons in water samples of Vlora's port were higher / comparable than reported levels for them in other stations of the Adriatic Sea, Albania part.

Abstract: This study presented data about concentrations of some organic pollutants inAlbanian part of Black Drin (BD), White Drin (WD) and Fierza Reservoir (FR).Thirteen stations were analyzed in this study. Sampling of water was realized inMay 2017. Drin River presents important aquatic area in Albania. For all watersamples were analyzed organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinatedbiphenyls (PCBs), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and o-, m-, p-xylenes (BTEX)and polyromantic hydrocarbons (PAH). Organochlorined pesticides and PCBswere found in higher level for Fierza Reservoir stations. Their concentrations forBlack and White Drin samples were 5-10 times lower.

Abstract: This paper presents concentrations of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in marine water samples of Porto-Romano area. Porto-Romano is situated in Adriatic Sea, near city of Durres, in central Albania. It was considered Hot-spot area because before 90' there was located chemical plant for Lindane production. Landfill near Porto-Romano and elevated activity for industrial development of this area can be the main sources of water pollution in recent years. Water samples were taken in December 2018 and April 2019 in nine stations of Porto-Romano. Liquid-liquid extraction was used for isolate organic pollutants from water samples. Clean-up procedure for chlorinated pollutants was realized in a Florisil column. Qualitative and quantitative analyzes of pesticides and PCBs were performed in HP 6890 Series II, gas chromatograph equipped with p-ECD detector. For separation of organochlorine pollutants was used Rtx-5 capillary column. Analyzes of PAH were realized in Varian 450 GC, gas chromatograph equipped with FID detector and VF-1ms capillary column. The most frequent organic pollutants in water samples of Porto-Romano were found organochlorine pesticides because of ex-chemical plants impact in this area. Note, that Lindane and its isomers weren't found in high concentration. PCB 28, volatile congener, was found in higher concentrations because of their atmospheric origin. Presence of PCB 138 show terrestrial origin of PCBs in this area. PAH were found in higher concentrations inside of hydrocarbon port. Their concentrations were due to industrial activity and ship transport in this area. Mismanagement of Lindane plant wastes, urban pollution and recent industrial activity are factors of continues pollution in Porto-Romano area. Presence of organic pollutants in water samples of Porto-Romano indicates that monitoring of this Hot-spot should be continuous.

Abstract: The Shkumbin River is one of the largest in the country, with a length of 181 km, a catchmentarea of 2444 km2, and an average height of its sources of 753 m. For the specificity of the ShkumbinRiver and the importance of the use of its waters, it is necessary to continuously study the level of waterquality and the level of pollution, especially in its lower reaches, where agricultural and urban activitiesare concentrated and industrial. The study was carried out in the period 2021–2022, in the Shkumbin River watershed, and eight stationswere selected as representative points of the main stream of the Shkumbin River. In the context ofindustrial and urban development, the preservation of the natural environment takes on specialimportance. The solution to this problem requires the hydrochemical study of water sources, which isnecessary for the control of their condition, and the study of compounds and polluting phenomena. Inorder to study the distribution of organic pollutants and heavy metals and obtain pollutant distributionpictures using the ArcGIS system, the Inverse Distance Weighting Method was used.
