Abstract: This paper aims to improve SHA-512 security without increasing complexity; therefore, we focused on hash functions depending on DNA sequences and chaotic maps. After analysis of 45 various chaotic map types, only 5 types are selected in this proposal—namely, improved logistic, cosine logistic map, logistic sine system, tent sine system, and hybrid. Using DNA features and binary coding technology with complementary rules to hide information is a key challenge. This article proposes improving SHA-512 in two aspects: the modification of original hash buffer values, and the modification of additive constants Kt. This proposal is to make hash buffer values (a, b, c, d, e, f, g, and h) and Kt dependent on one-dimensional discrete chaotic maps and DNA sequences instead of constant. This modification complicates the relationship between the original message and hash value, making it unexpected. The performance of the proposed hash function is tested and analyzed the confusion, diffusion, and distributive and compared with the original SHA-512. The performance of security is analyzed by collision analysis, for which the maximum number of hits is only three, showing that the proposed hash function enhances the security and robustness of SHA-512. The statistical data and experimental analysis indicate that the proposed scheme has good properties and satisfies high-performance requirements for secure hash functions.

Abstract: New bandstop/bandpass microstrip structures with harmonic suppression are presented in this article. By replacing the series quarter‐wavelength connecting lines of conventional open‐stub bandpass/bandstop filters with the equivalent Π‐shaped line section, compact open‐stub bandstop/bandpass filters with second harmonic suppression are achieved. Transmission‐line theory is used to derive the design equations of the equivalent Π‐shaped lines. Simulation and experiments have also been done to validate the proposed design concept. When compared with the conventional open‐stub Bandpass/Bandstop filters, the second harmonic is suppressed and size reduction is achieved in both the Bandstop/bandpass structures. Moreover, results confirm that the proposed shaped bandpass filter achieves a further third harmonic rejection. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most epidemic type of dementia. The cause and treatment of the disease remain unidentified. However, when the impairment is still at a preliminary stage or mild cognitive impairment (MCI), the symptoms might be more controlled, and the treatment can be more efficient. As a result, computational diagnosis of the disease based on brain medical images is crucial for early diagnosis. Methods: In this study, an efficient computational method was introduced to classify MRI brain scans for patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and normal aging control (NC), comprising three main steps: I) feature extraction, II) feature selection III) classification. Although most of the current approaches utilize binary classification, the proposed model can differentiate between multiple stages of Alzheimer’s disease and achieve superior results in early-stage AD diagnosis. 158 magnetic resonance images (MRI) were taken from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative database (ADNI), which were preprocessed and normalized to be suitable for extracting the volume, cortical thickness, sulci depth, and gyrification index measures for various brain regions of interest (ROIs), as they play a considerable role in the detection of AD. One of the embedded feature selection method was used to select the most informative features for AD diagnosis. Three models were used to classify AD based on the selected features: an extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), support vector machine (SVM), and K-nearest neighborhood (KNN). Results and Discussion: XGBoost showed the highest accuracy of 92.31%, precision of 0.92, recall of 0.92, F1-score of 0.92, and AUC of 0.9543. Recent research has reported using multivariable data analysis to classify dementia stages such as MCI and AD and employing machine learning to predict dementia stages. Conclusion: In the proposed method, we achieved good performance for early-stage AD (MCI) detection, which is the most targeted stage to be identified. Moreover, we investigated the most reliable features for the diagnosis of AD.

Abstract: This article presents the design of a compact Wilkinson power divider for dual applications. The design is accomplished by transforming the length and impedance of the quarter wave sections of the conventional Wilkinson power divider into dual band Π ‐shaped sections. Simple design equations for basic design geometry are given. The dual band power divider geometry is analyzed using EM simulator and then realized at 1.8 and 4.775 GHz. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract: A new microstrip low pass filter (LPF) with defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed in this article. The DGSs consists of reshaped rectangular dumbbell slot and four groups of Z‐shape slots. The microstrip line with DGS gave good rejection band extend from 3.0 to 9 GHz with acceptable pass band. The microstrip line with open circuit stubs (without DGS) gave good rejection band at the high frequency from 9 to 14 GHz. Using both structures results in LPF with wideband rejection from 3.37 to 14 GHz with attenuation less than (−26.0dB) and good passband less than (−25 dB). An equivalent circuit for the proposed LPF was given. The realized filter size was 34.0 × 34.0 mm 2 , and it gave good agreement with simulated results. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract: Human relationships rely on trust, which is the reason that the authentication and related digital signatures are the most complex and confusing areas of cryptography. The Massage Authentication Codes (MACs) could be built from cryptographic hash functions or block cipher modes of operations. Substitution-Box (S-Box) is the unique nonlinear operation in block ciphers, and it determines the cipher performance. The stronger S-Box, the stronger and more secure the algorithm. This paper focuses on the security considerations for MACs using block cipher modes of operations with the Hierocrypt-3 block cipher. the Hierocrypt-3 could be considered as a week cipher. It could be enhanced by changing its S-Box with a new one that has better performance against algebraic attack with using different modes of operations. The mathematical model for the new S-Boxes with its properties is provided. The result of this change appeared in the mirror of Average Strict Avalanche Criterion (SAC) and some other properties. SAC could be improved from 0.80469 to 0.16406. The Hierocrypt-3 could be enhanced for more security.

Abstract: This paper proposes a novel design of a software-defined matched filter (MF) for digital receivers of synthetic aperture radar (SAR). The block diagram of the proposed receiver is described in detail. The purpose of this filter is to produce a SAR pulse with higher compression ratio (CR) and lower side lobe level (SLL) than that produced by the conventional MF. The proposed design is based on the idea of time windowing of the SAR pulse to construct the transfer function of the receiver filter. The shape of the proposed time-domain window is optimized to achieve the filter design goals including the minimization of the SLL and the realization of the target value of the CR. The transmitted SAR pulse is, first, subjected to linear frequency modulation and then subjected to the optimized window. The width (time duration) of the proposed window is divided into equal time intervals. The proposed time-domain window is constructed as a sequential continuous piecewise linear segments. The instantaneous value of the time-domain window at the start of each time interval is optimized so as to achieve the optimization goals. The width of the time-domain window is shown to be proportional to the width of the compressed pulse after optimization. The number of the time intervals into which the time duration of the window is divided is shown to have a significant effect on the optimization results. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is then applied to get the window shape that minimizes the SLL for a specific predetermined value of the pulse CR. It is shown that the iterations of the PSO are fastly convergent and that the applied algorithm is computationally efficient. Also, it is shown that the desired value of the pulse CR is achieved with accuracy of 100%. Moreover, the achieved SLLs are about − $$65\,\mathrm{dB}$$ 65 dB , $$- 90\,\mathrm{dB}$$ - 90 dB , $$- 114\,\mathrm{dB}$$ - 114 dB , and $$- 133\,\mathrm{dB}$$ - 133 dB for pulse CR of 5, 3, 2, and 1.5, respectively. Finally, for practical implementation of the introduced SAR pulse processing technique, the proposed optimized window is placed as a building block in a software-defined receiver of the SAR system.
