Notizen: Abstract Community mental health developments in major American cities are reviewed and compared through 1968. An open-ended questionnaire covering nine areas basic to urban community mental health services was forwarded to appropriate authorities in 25 American cities. Data collected from the 15 respondents indicated extreme diversity in terms of type of administration, funding patterns, scope of program, community participation, and so forth. The data also indicate rapid developments in community mental health services in major American cities. The findings are consistent with the general conclusion that community mental health services in urban settings are in an early developmental stage.

Notizen: Abstract Orientations toward citizens' board functioning in a community mental health setting were studied in an urban setting involving 18 community-based mental health centers. Four groups were interviewed: citizen board members, board chairpersons, center staff, and center directors. Groups generally agreed that the primary function of a board is to make certain that community needs are met. Board members and professionals differed in perceptions of reasons for joining boards and, more important, the degree of involvement board members should have. Board members saw their role as advisory, staff favored codecision or advisory, directors favored codecision, and chairpersons wanted a stronger board role.

Notizen: Abstract In an effort to add greater understanding to the concept of crisis intervention, it is proposed that emotional crises be placed on a continuum ranging from normal developmental crises to psychiatric emergencies. If emotional crises are placed on such a continuum, reasons behind crisis intervention are clarified as are the roles of direct treatment and consultation. Along with such clarification it is suggested that a variety of viewpoints of an emotional crisis should be considered in its assessment. This in turn results in a more pragmatic and comprehensive orientation for a community mental health center to effectively assist people in crisis.

Notizen: Abstract The locus of muncipal mental health services is frequently an urban community, reflecting a wide range of social and ethnic complexities. This locus differs sharply from the historic setting of such services, that is, institutionally based, rurally located state hospitals. To effect this significant shift in locus and emphasis, an evolutionary process with close community involvement at alllevels of development must occur. Only via such an evolutionary process can resistance to the implications of this change from professional, political, or community sources be adequately resolved.

Notizen: Ceramic materials for permanent implantation in osseous tissue, called osteoceramics, were based on an equimolar mixture of Ca3(PO4)2 and MgAl2O4. Tooth roots with dense regions and with regions of controlled porosity for tissue ingrowth were made from the material. They were implanted submucosally in the mandible and maxilla of dogs. Tissue response was aceptable and strong attachment occurred. Thin sections are presented showing the interface of the alveolar bone and the prosthesis.

Beschreibung: The use of assimilation tools for satellite validation requires true estimates of the accuracy of the reference data. Since its inception, the Network for Detection of Stratospheric Change (NDSC) has provided systematic lidar measurements of ozone and temperature at several places around the world that are well adapted for satellite validations. Regular exercises have been organised to ensure the data quality at each individual site. These exercises can be separated into three categories: large scale intercomparisons using multiple instruments, including a mobile lidar; using satellite observations as a geographic transfer standards to compare measurements at different sites; and comparative investigations of the analysis software. NDSC is a research network, so each system has its own history, design, and analysis, and has participated differently in validation campaigns. There are still some technological differences that may explain different accuracies. However, the comparison campaigns performed over the last decade have always proved to be very helpful in improving the measurements. To date, more efforts have been devoted to characterising ozone measurements than to temperature observations. The synthesis of the published works shows that the network can potentially be considered as homogeneous within +/-2% between 20-35 km for ozone and +/-1 K between 35-60 km for temperature. Outside this altitude range, larger biases are reported and more efforts are required. In the lower stratosphere, Raman channels seem to improve comparisons but such capabilities were not systematically compared. At the top of the profiles, more investigations on analysis methodologies are still probably needed. SAGE II and GOMOS appear to be excellent tools for future ozone lidar validations but need to be better coordinated and take more advantage of assimilation tools. Also, temperature validations face major difficulties caused by atmospheric tides and therefore require intercomparisons with the mobile systems, at all sites.
