    Notes: Abstract The metazoan fauna of platelet layers was investigated at Drescher Inlet, Weddell Sea, Antarctica in the late summer of 1995. Twenty-eight species were found, many of them new to science. The most abundant subclass was the Copepoda, of which almost 90% of the individuals belong to only three species: Drescheriella glacialis, Stephos longipes and Paralabidocera antarctica. Among copepods, Harpacticoida was the largest group, represented by 16 species. Total abundance varied between 40 and 120 individuals l−1. Abundances and population structure were comparable to other especially porous sea-ice habitats. Results indicate competitive exclusion among the three dominant species. The finding of a profuse meiofauna in platelet layers may explain enigmatic concentrations of ammonium and phosphate commonly detected there.

    Description: Two expeditions, undertaken in 1994 and 1996, provided quantitatively sampled material of sublittoral and bathyal meiobenthos from the Paso Ancho of the Straits of Magellan, the Beagle Channel, and the Patagonian continental slope (Chile). To investigate whether these distinct geographic areas might also be characterised by different harpacticoid assemblages, qualitative and quantitative analyses of Copepoda Harpacticoida were carried out. At supraspecific level 25 harpacticoid families were found, as well as several species that could not yet be assigned to any major harpacticoid taxon. Due to the high amount of collected Harpacticoida, detailed investigations at species level had to be restricted to six taxa, namely the Ancorabolidae, Argestidae, Cletodidae, Diosaccinae, Paramesochridae, and Paranannopinae. The corresponding specimens were assigned to 122 species in 52 genera. More than 80% of them are new to science. Qualitative comparisons of both species composition and species distribution allow the three areas to be distinguished in terms of species richness. However, statistical analyses confirm these results only partly. Similarity analyses applying non-metrical multidimensional scaling, as well as diversity analyses using the rarefaction method, suggest that the observed differences in distribution and diversity patterns are due to small-scale, local conditions, which may overlay possible large-scale ones.

    Description: Salinity and Oxygen were not calibrated beyond the manufacturer's calibration coefficients. Compared to climatological values (WOA18) salinity appears to be 0.05 PSU too low. Both CTD sensors and the two TSG sensors do however agree. Oxygen values are in the range of the climatological values, possibly 5 umol/kg too low. Some deep profiles show consistently low oxygen values that is not represented in the climatology. Use this data with caution.

    Description: A systematic investigation of the extant coccolithophore community around Azores Archipelago was performed during the cruise M150 of FS Meteor between August, 27, and October, 2, 2018, in the scope of the project BIODIAZ - Controls in benthic and pelagic BIODIversity of the AZores. For the description of the spacial and vertical distribution of the extant coccolithophore community sampling was done at 50 stations along 9 transects including 3 islands, a seamount and islets from 5 to 8 water depths between surface and 150 m. A total of 306 samples were obtained, filtered onboard onto polycarbonate membranes and sections of these filters mounted in the laboratory on microscope slides for analysis by cross-polarized light microscopy. At least 400 coccospheres were counted through a randomly selected sequence of fields of view and the absolute abundances (Coccospheres/L) were estimated.
