    Notizen: Major genes for resistance to powdery mildew were analysed in 24 Czechoslovakian wheat cultivars and, in part, in their parents. For this purpose individual isolates of the pathogen, able to differentiate host lines with known resistance genes, were selected. Eight of nineteen winter wheat cultivars do not possess any major resistance gene. Three cultivars have one and seven have two genes. One cultivar carries a combination of three genes (Pm2, Pm4b, Pm8). The most common resistance genes are Pm4b, Pm5 and Pm8. Pm2 is once combined with Pm6. Only one of five spring cultivars lacked a major resistance gene. Mlk is once present alone and twice combined with Pm5. There is one spring cultivar with a novel combination of three genes: Pm1, Pm5 and another gene needing further characterization. The observations are discussed with additional results of parent lines and further information on pedigrees.

    Notizen: Abstract Ribbons of the metal-metalloid glassy alloy (Fe,Cr)80(P,C,Si)20 and Fe75Cr5P8C10Si2, respectively, were treated with an aqueous solution of FeCl3 (29 mass%) in an ultrasonic bath. The surface of the amorphous solid is maximally influenced at the flux line as the contact zone of glass/solution/ air. This region of the amorphous solid was studied by light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA) as well as the electron beam micro analysis (EBMA) after the treatment. Changes in the surface stage and the surface behaviour take place independently of the state of the initial glass surface (shiny or dull side of a ribbon). Reaction products of different morphology were formed. In the flux line of the glass an enrichment of Si and Fe could be detected. These results agree with those of electrochemical measurement. According to this, a chloride ion containing acid aqueous solution is rather corrosive to this glassy alloy.

    Notizen: Summary Chromosome constitutions of three wheat-Agropyron intermedium derivatives were identified by C-banding analysis, in situ hybridization using biotin-labeled genomic Ag. intermedium DNA as a probe and isozyme analysis. Lines W44 and W52 were identified as 7Ai-2(7D) and 7Ai-2(7A) chromosome substitution lines carrying the same chromosome pair of Ag. intermedium. The alien chromosome was found to be homoeologous to group 7 based on C-banding, meiotic pairing and isozyme analyses. Line W49 was identified as a wheat Ag. intermedium chromosome translocation line. The breakpoint of the T2AS · 2AL-7Ai-2L translocation is located in the long arm at a fraction length of 0.62, and the transferred Ag. intermedium segment has a size of about 2.4 μm. Lines W44 and W52 expressed Ag. intermedium genes for resistance to leaf rust, stripe rust and stem rust, but only leaf rust resistance was expressed in W49. The results show that the leaf rust resistance gene(s), designated Lr38, is located in the distal half of the long arm of chromosome 7Ai-2, whereas the genes for resistance to stem rust and stripe rust are located either in the short arm or in the proximal region of the long arm of this chromosome.

    Notizen: Summary Monosomic analysis of resistance to stem rust, race 11 (isolate G 425) was carried out in the cultivar Almus (GDR) possessing a 1B/1R translocation. F2 progenies of monosomic and disomic F1 plants of Almus crossed with 21 monosomic lines of Chinese Spring were tested. Two lines (1B and 6B) differed significantly from the disomic segregation ratio by a higher number of resistant plants and two other lines (1D and 6A) by a lower number of resistant plants. The results fitted a hypothesis comprising the interaction of two genes for resistance and two inhibitors.

    Notizen: Summary Wheat cultivars Salzmünder Bartweizen and Weique gave a similar pattern of reaction type when tested with 27 different races of stem rust and 17 races of leaf rust from Canada and Czechoslovakia. Both cultivars were resistant to all races of stem rust and most of the races of leaf rust. Genetic studies indicated that the two varieties have the same genes for rust resistance, with the genes for leaf and stem rust being closely linked. Transmission of the genes for rust resistance was irregular and appeared to be associated with meiotic irregularities in chromosome pairing. In all F2 populations which deviated significantly from a 3:1 ratio, a deficiency of resistant plants was noted. The greatest deficiency was in the F2 of crosses involving Salzmünder Bartweizen, of which the F1 hybrid also had the greatest meiotic irregularities. Chimeral plants, of which the longitudinal half of the leaf showed a resistant reaction and the other half a susceptible reaction, were observed in crosses with Salzmünder Bartweizen.

    Notizen: Abstract Complexation equilibrium of metals by three humic acids of different origin with ultrafiltration method was investigated at pH 4 a 5 and ionic strength I = 0.1M NaClO4. Commercial (Aldrich) and two original humic acids (peat and soil, obtained by six step isolation process from the material from Trnava county, close to the NPP Jaslovské Bohunice) were used in this study. For the evaluation of the results, the model of metal ion charge neutralization upon humic acid functional group proposed by the Kim and Czerwinski was used. Complexation constants were calculated using the terms of this model (operational concentration, loading capacity). The values of log β = 5.39±0.16 for yttrium, 6.15±0.16 for americium and 5.20±0.08 for lead were found. Correlation of free metal concentration and ratio of molar fraction of complexing functional groups confirms the validity of charge neutralisation model for metal and polyelectrolyte complexation study.

    Notizen: Abstract A magnetic sorbent based on a mixture of magnetic iron and nickel oxides, and specific surface activation by ferrocyanide solution for enhancement of cesium adsorption is described. After equilibration of clay or soil suspension with the magnetic sorbent, the latter can be removed with exchangeable radiocesium and radiostrontium by means of magnetic separation. The distribution coefficients of the order 2·103 l/kg for cesium and 5·103 l/kg for strontium were determined. The efficiency of the sorbent was investigated in a 1% montmorillonite or soil suspension. At a soil:sorbent ratio 1:1–1:6 in the suspension, the fraction of exchangeable radiocesium in soil at a 2 hours contact was diminished from 56–59% to 48–12%, the decontamination factor of both the mobile cesium and strontium is about 3. The multistage process and sorbent recycling need further investigation.

    Notizen: Abstract The high-performance size-exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) and radiochromatography (HPSERC) was used for the identification of radiocesium and radiostrontium interaction with humic acid. It was found that the behavior of humic acid on size-exclusion chromatography is sensitive to the salt concentration and pH of the mobile phase. At lower ionic strength and in acidic region of pH, the Aldrich humic acid exhibited three main fraction within the ranges 〉760 kDa, 25–100 kDa and 〈5 kDa. Radiocesium was found in the low-molecular fractions (〈1 kDa) of humic acids but radiostrontium interacts preferably with the fractions of humic acid of molecular weight within the range 2–5 kDa.

    Notizen: Abstract Aqueous two-phase systems allow partition of metal ions in nondenaturing conditions. From the fresh skim bovine milk spiked with212Pb and agitated with 4% water solution of apple pectin (degree of esterification-70%), less than 2.3% is recovered to the pectin phase and in the case of pasteurized milk less than 3.0%. Complexation with chelate forming agents was studied. Aminoacids as glycine, alanine and histidine do not exert influence on the yield, but the recovery in the pectin phase was 22% for cysteine, and 80% in the case of EdtacalTM (calcium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid). The retention of lead in milk phase is extraordinarily high as compared to strontium and corresponds to the behavior of trivalent ions.
