Climate of the Past, 14(1), 85-100, https://doi.org/10.5194/cp-14-85-2018

Description: This is a dendrochronological investigation of a mire site densely covered by peat-preserved pine stumps (Pinus sylvestris). The site in the northwest German Tote Moor revealed to feature trees from various Holocene millennia. The dendrochronologically dated site chronology covers 2345 years between 6703 BC and 3403 BC, containing 5 gaps between 6 and 550 years in length. It consists of 477 trees. A floating chronology segment of 309 years, containing 30 trees, was radiocarbon dated to the beginning of the 7th millennium cal. BC. The tree ring data from the site documents environmental changes over a larger period of time. Furthermore, the site is covered densely with in situ tree stumps from the fen-bog transition. This facilitates the spatio-temporal reconstruction of mire development, which is based on 212 in situ tree stumps in the case study presented here. Peat-stratigraphical survey was carried out additionally, and elevations a.s.l. were determined at several locations.

Description: In order to reconstruct regional vegetation changes and local conditions during the fen-bog transition in the Borsteler Moor (northwestern Germany), a sediment core covering the period between 7.1 and 4.5 cal kyrs BP was palynologically in vestigated. The pollen diagram demonstrates the dominance of oak forests and a gradual replacement of trees by raised bog vegetation with the wetter conditions in the Late Atlantic. At ~ 6 cal kyrs BP, the non-pollen palynomorphs (NPP) demonstrate the succession from mesotrophic conditions, clearly indicated by a number of fungal spore types, to oligotrophic conditions, indicated by Sphagnum spores, Bryophytomyces sphagni, and testate amoebae Amphitrema, Assulina and Arcella, etc. Four relatively dry phases during the transition from fen to bog are clearly indicated by the dominance of Calluna and associated fungi as well as by the increase of microcharcoal. Several new NPP types are described and known NPP types are identified. All NPP are discussed in the context of their palaeoecological indicator values.

Description: Abstract: From a raised bog peat sample from the Großen Moor near Uchte (Nienburg/Weser-Distrikt), Lower Saxony, the endophytic fungus Penicillium janthinellum Biourge was isolated and cultivated in 100 ml medium. As a secondary metabolite a diketopiperazine could be isolated and the structure determined by HR-MS and 1D- and 2D-NMR-spectroscopic analysis.
Description: Zusammenfassung: Aus einer Hochmoortorf-Probe aus dem Großen Moor bei Uchte (Ldkr.

Description: Subfossile Kiefern werden in vielen Mooren Nordwestdeutschlands gefunden.

Description: Abstract: In accordance with archaeological investigations conducted after the discovery of an Iron Age bog body, a 3D-landscape model of the Grosse Moor near Uchte (Lower Saxony, Germany) was developed. It shows the extension of the peatland during the middle of the first millenium BC. More than 2750 soil profiles taken during the last 60 years were stratigraphically synchronized and together with about 2500 geodetic points from the surrounding area used for the reconstruction of the Iron Age landscape.

Description: In Europe hardly no landscape has changed so substantially as the peatlands did during the last centuries. Melioration and land use resulted in massive changes of the peatland-ecosystems. For the period of the last 250 years for the nature reserve Huvenhoopsmoor, district of Rotenburg (Wümme), northern Lower Saxony, this development is shown by the interpretation of topographic maps and aerial photographs.
