Abstract:
A new homologous series of superconducting cuprates containing a mercury-based bilayer has been synthesized using a high-pressure, high-temperature technique. It is found that Tl doping stabilizes a bilayer block with the rock-salt structure i.e. (Hg 1- x Tl x ) 2 –O 2 . (Hg 1- x Tl x ) 2 Ba 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O y and (Hg 1- x Tl x ) 2 Ba 2 Ca 3 Cu 4 O y as-prepared samples with analized Tl contents of approximately 0.4 exhibited bulk superconductivity below 45 K and 114 K, respectively.
