    Description: Results from Underwater Vision Profiler 5hd measurements from campaign ARCTIC2018 (Transdrift XXIV). Depth profiles for optical particle quantification (〉~0.1 mm) and particle image acquisition (〉~0.8 mm) were performed in August and September 2018 in the Laptev and East Sibirian Sea as well as the Nansen and Amundsen Basin onboard RV Akademik Tryoshnikov. This dataset lists the metadata such as station name, latitude, longitude and sensor specifications for every acquired profile.

This dataset describes the particle quantification as concentrations (particle number per L) as well as volumes (particle volume per L) of pre-defined and binned size classes, calculated using Zooprocess (Gorsky et al. 2010; doi:10.1093/plankt/fbp124) and Ecotaxa (Picheral, M., Colin, S. & Irisson, J.-O. (2017): EcoTaxa, a tool for the taxonomic classification of images. http://ecotaxa.obs-vlfr.fr.).

    Description: Results from Underwater Vision Profiler 5hd measurements from campaign ARCTIC2018 (Transdrift XXIV). Depth profiles for optical particle quantification (〉~0.1 mm) and particle image acquisition (〉~0.8 mm) were performed in August and September 2018 in the Laptev and East Sibirian Sea as well as the Nansen and Amundsen Basin onboard RV Akademik Tryoshnikov. This dataset provides the results of the particle image validation. Zooplankton and detritus images were validated with software assistance in Ecotaxa (Picheral, M., Colin, S. & Irisson, J.-O. (2017): EcoTaxa, a tool for the taxonomic classification of images. http://ecotaxa.obs-vlfr.fr.). Depth binned concentrations (individuals per m³) as well as volumes (volume per L) and the average equivalent spherical diameter (ESD) are shown for every identified group and taxon. Note that detritus sub-classes were used for training set creation only. Robust counts of total detritus as well as detritus sub-classes are provided in the detritus clustering file.

    Description: During Polarstern expedition PS99.2 in July 2016 in LTER Hausgarten, particle abundances and biovolumes were acquired using an Underwater Vision Profiler 5HD. The UVP was attached to the CTD, whereas the instrument was programmed for acquisition during the descending part of the cast with a frequency of 20 Hz, resulting in 1 acquisition every 5 cm of the water column with 1 m/s lowering speed. The pixel size was 88 µm, the acquired volume ~1 L and the resolution 4 Mpx.

    Description: Results from Underwater Vision Profiler 5hd measurements from campaign ARCTIC2018 (Transdrift -XXIV). Depth profiles for optical particle quantification (〉~0.1 mm) and particle image acquisition (〉~0.8 mm) were performed in August and September 2018 in the Laptev and East Sibirian Sea as well as the Nansen and Amundsen Basin onboard RV Akademik Tryoshnikov. This dataset describes results of detailed detritus clustering of all identified detritus images accomplished using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and k-means clustering according to Trudnowska et al. 2021 (doi:10.1038/s41467-021-22994-4). Average detritus image variables (grey value, ESD, Elongation etc.) as well as concentrations (individuals per L) of resulting detritus clusters (large heterogenous, elongated, small dark etc.) are presented in a depth binned shape.

    Description: Results of particulate organic carbon (POC) and particulate organic nitrogen (PON) samplings and sensor-based high-resolution POC predictions from campaign ARCTIC2018 (Transdrift XXIV). Samples for POC and PON 〈 and 〉 100 µm as well as sensor data for prediction were obtained in August and September 2018 in the Laptev and East Sibirian Sea as well as the Nansen and Amundsen Basin onboard RV Akademik Tryoshnikov. This dataset presents the results of the sensor-based high-resolution POC estimation. POC 〈 100µm was estimated using coefficients of a regression between chlorophyll fluorescence and turbidity sensor data as well as reference POC measurements for this size class (see https://doi.pangaea.de/10.1594/PANGAEA.947376). POC 〉 100 µm was estimated using a regression between factor (a) and exponent (b) of a power law regression describing the shape of the transformed relative cumulative particle size distribution measured using Underwater Vision Profiler 5hd as well as total particle volume (〈2.05 mm) from the Underwater Vision Profiler 5hd and reference POC samples 〉 100 µm (see https://doi.pangaea.de/10.1594/PANGAEA.947376).     Description: This dataset contains calibrated chlorophyll concentrations for CTD bottle data collected with the ship based CTD rosette during the cruise PS124 - COSMUS (Continental Shelf Multidisciplinary Flux Study) in the southern Weddell Sea between January and March 2021. Factory calibrated chlorophyll fluorescence sensor data was field calibrated using chlorophyll reference samples measured against chlorophyll a standard. Pigment extraction from 1L water samples filtered onto GFF filters was performed with 90 % acetone including cell disruption with glass beads. Linear regression between sample chlorophyll concentration (n=62) and chlorophyll fluorescence sensor data from CTD bottle measurements was accomplished with a Robust Linear Model and Andrew's Wave weight function using the python package statsmodels v0.14.0. Coefficient of determination (R²) of the resulting regression was 0.95 while excluding 3 outliers. The resulting coefficient was 0.4118 and the constant 0.004. Note the intense noise in fluorescence signals and resulting chlorophyll concentrations at station PS124_5-2 which was caused by optical interference. This effect might require noise reduction (convolving) methods in order to allow a reliable interpretation. Quality flags were given based on paragraph 6 Quality flags from SeaDataNet (2010).

    Description: Results of particulate organic carbon (POC) and particulate organic nitrogen (PON) samplings from campaign ARCTIC2018 (Transdrift XXIV). Samples for POC and PON 〈 and 〉 100 µm were obtained in August and September 2018 in the Laptev and East Sibirian Sea as well as the Nansen and Amundsen Basin onboard RV Akademik Tryoshnikov. This dataset presents results of POC and PON concentration measurements (µg per L) of samples of the particle size fraction larger and smaller than 100 µm from Niskin bottles of a water sampler rosette.
