Notes: Summary The activity of practicing surgeons in the field of proctology is curtailed by the absence of special institutions for continuing education in this field as well as inordinantly low fees for proctologic examinations and interventions. After a description of anamnestic and examination procedures in the field of proctology, the possibility of ambulant therapy in the surgeon's practice is discussed. A brief description is presented of those anorectal diseases which are treatable in practice and the procedures to be used if the best possible results are to be obtained.
