    Associations between atopic diseases and the polymorphic systems ABO, kidd, inv and red cell acid phosphatase (1979)

    Notes: Summary In 239 German patients with atopic conditions (atopic dermatitis, hay fever, allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, and acute urticaria) the phenotype and gene distribution of 15 genetic blood polymorphisms (ABO, MNSs, Rhesus, P, Kell, Duffy, Kidd, Hp, Gc, Gm, Inv, aP, PGM1, EsD, and 6-PGD) were analyzed and compared with those in 151 selected controls (individuals clinically free of allergic conditions and without allergy in the family history). The incidence of blood group antigens A and B was somewhat higher in patients than in controls. These observations are in accordance with the results of previous studies in other populations. In addition, our observation favor the hypothesis that there are also associations between the phenotypes Jk (a-b+), Inv(1) and red cell acid phosphatase aP a and aP AP on the one hand and atopic disposition on the other. The possible reasons for these associations are discussed.

    Notes: Abstract A boy aged 9 years and 8 months was evaluated for headache and an enlarged sella. His neurological status and visual fields were normal. After injection of radiographic contrast agent, computerized axial tomography showed evidence of an intrasellar tumor. The most striking endocrine abnormalities were growth hormone insufficiency after arginine infusion and after insulin-induced hypoglycemia, and excessively elevated prolactin levels ranging between 1220 ng/ml and 1560 ng/ml. A slightly granulated, acidophilic pituitary adenoma was selectively removed by the trans-sphenoidal approach. The function of the anterior pituitary improved post-operatively. Growth hormone secretion after insulin-induced hypoglycemia returned to normal, and the basal serum prolactin levels decreased, but are still three times higher than normal.

    Notes: Summary A total of 13 metabolites thought to be possibly inhibitory were tested for their influence on PGM isozyme activities, each at several different concentrations. The analysis of statistical significance was based on enzyme activities obtained by densitometric measurements of starch gels. Five of the substances were found to inhibit PGM activity, three of which definitely and a further one probably led to a significantly stronger inhibition of the isozymes of the PGM 2 locus than of PGM 1 isozymes. They are (1) fructose-1,6-diphosphate, (2) adenosine triphosphate, (3) citrate, and (4) possibly 2,3-diphosphoglycerate. Thus, PGM 1 isozymes proved to function better in hard or perhaps marginal metabolic conditions. Related evolutionary aspects are discussed.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wird ein Überblick über die seit 1968 an der Orthopädischen Abteilung der Chirurgischen Universitätsklinik Freiburg durchgeführten totalen Hüftendoprothesenoperationen gegeben. Die Operation brachte bei 14,4% der Operierten ein „sehr gutes“ Ergebnis, bei 50,6% ein „gutes“ und bei 29,7% ein „befriedigendes“ Ergebnis. Ein „schlechter“ Operationserfolg fand sich bei 5,6% des Patientengutes. Die Ergebnisse werden im Hinblick auf die möglichen Komplikationen diskutiert.
    Notes: Summary A review of the hip replacement operations performed by the department of orthopaedics of the University Hospital of Freiburg follows. The operation brought “very good” results for 14.4% of those operated upon, “good” results for 50.6% and satisfactory results for 29.7%. The results of the operation were unsatisfactory for 5.6% of the patients. In view of the possible complications, the results will be discussed.

    Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and reactivity of DichlorotrinitrosylvanadiumDichlorotrinitrosylvanadium is prepared by reaction of VCl4 with NO in CCl4 at 20°C. For [V(NO)3Cl2]n which is also formed from V(CO)6 and NOCl a structure with a trigonal pyramidal V(NO)3 group and with terminal and bridging chlorine ligands is proposed. [V(NO)3Cl2]n reacts with a range of N and O donors by substitution of two NO ligands to give mononitrosyl complexes V(NO)LnCl2; e.g. acetonitrile, o-phenanthroline, triphenylphosphine oxide afford the compounds [V(NO)L4Cl]Cl. The reaction of [V(NO)3Cl2]n with triphenylphosphine oxide and pyridine-N-oxide in CHCl3 proceeds by oxidation of vanadium and formation of the compounds VOL2Cl2 (L=OPPh3, C5H5NO).
    Notes: Dichlorotrinitrosylvanadin entsteht durch Umsetzung von VCl4mit NO in CCl4 bei 20°. Für [V(NO)3Cl2]n, das sich auch aus V(CO)6 und NOCl bildet, wird eine mehrkernige Struktur mit trigonal Pyramidaler V(NO)3-Gruppe sowie mit endständigen V-Cl-Bindungen und V-Cl-V-Brücken vorgeschlagen. [V(NO)3Cl2]n setzt sich unter milden Bedingungen mit N- und O-Basen unter Substitution von zwei NO-Liganden zu Mononitrosylkomplexen V(NO)LnCl2 um. Mit Acetonitril, o-Phenanthrolin, Triphenylphosphinoxid (in Benzol) werden die Verbindungen [V(NO)L4Cl]Cl erhalten. Triphenylphosphinoxid und Pyridin-N-oxid reagieren mit [V(NO)3Cl2]n in Chloroform unter Oxydation des Vanadins und Bildung der Oxovanadin(IV)-Komplexe VOL2Cl2 (L= OPPh3, C5H5NO).

    Description / Table of Contents: Transition Metal Complexes with Anions of 1-substituted Tetrazolinones and -thiones and of 1,3-Thiazolin-2-thioneThe preparation of a series of anionic and phosphine containing complexes with the ambivalent anions of 1-R-tetrazolin-5-ones and -5-thiones, and of 1,3-thiazolin-2-thione is reported. According to the i.r. and 1H n.m.r. spectra the S-heterocycles are bonded through the exocyclic sulfur atom to the metal; in the oxotetrazolinate compounds coordination occurs via the N2 or N4 ring atoms. The copper and silver complexes [(Ph3P)MX]2 (X = anionic heterocycle) have been found to be dimeric.
    Notes: Die Darstellung einer Reihe von anionischen und phosphinhaltigen Komplexen mit den ambivalenten Anionen von 1-R-Tetrazolin-5-onen und -thionen, sowie von 1,3-Thiazolin-2-thion wird beschrieben. Nach den IR- und 1HNMR-Spektren sind die S-haltigen Heterocyclen stets über das exocyclische Schwefelatom an das Metall gebunden; in den Oxotetrazolinat-Verbindungen erfolgt die Koordination über den N2- oder N4-Ringstickstoff. Die Kupfer(I)- und Silber(I)-Komplexe [(Ph3P)MX]2 (X = anionischer Heterocyclus) erwiesen sich als dimer.

This ligand forms with (π-C5H5)M(CO)3Cl (M = Mo, W) stereospecifically a chiral complex which rearranges - again stereospecifically - to another diastereomer.
    Notes: Die Darstellung von (1R, 2S) -1-Phenyl-1-diphenylphosphino-2-N-methylaminopropan aus dem natürlich vorkommenden Ephedrin wird beschrieben. Dieser Ligand bildet mit (π-C5H5)M(CO)3Cl (M = Mo, W) in stereospezifische Reaktion einen am Metall asymmetrischen Komplex, der sich - ebenfalls stereospezifisch - in ein Diastereomeres umwandelt.
