Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary 20 commercial mineral waters from the Federal Republic of Germany were analyzed for uranium and thorium by α-spectrometry. The lowest uranium-238 and uranium-234 acitivities were 0.5 and 0.8 mBq/l, the highest 740 and 2 800 mBq/l, resp. In the same sample, the uranium-234 activity was always higher than the uranium-238 activity. Of thorium, only the isotope Th-228 with activity of 1.2–56 mBq/l was detected. Samples of tap water analyzed as a comparison had uranium-238 and uranium-234 activities, each in the range of 20–30 mBq/l.
