Notes: Abstract We calculate the plasmon dispersion of electrons in multiple quantum wire structures. Wave function overlapping effects between different wires are neglected. The Coulomb interaction potential is calculated for a model with circular wire area. Analytical results for the excitation spectrum of electron multiple quantum wire structures are obtained within an one-subband model. Landau damping of intrasubband plasmons is discussed. Results for an electron superlattice within a two-subband model are presented and the coupling of intersubband plasmons with intrasubband plasmons is calculated. We compare the theoretical results with recent Raman measurements of intrasubband plasmons in Al x Ga1−x As/GaAs wire superlattices. The plasmon dispersion for boson multiple quantum wire structures also is calculated.

Notes: Abstract We discuss interaction effects for the one-dimensional Bose gas with a repulsive delta-function interaction potential. We use the random-phase approximation and a finite local-field correction. Analytical results are given for the local-field correction, the pair-correlation function and the ground-state energy. The groundstate energy is found to be in much better agreement with the exact result than the ground-state energy calculated within the Bogoliubov approximation, where local-field corrections are neglected.

Notes: Abstract For temperature zero the effects of disorder for interacting bosons are considered. The disorder induced superfluid-insulator transition in thed-dimensional disordered Bogoliubov model is discussed. Results for a short-range and a long-range random potential are given. For short-range disorder we argue that ford〈4 arbitrarily small disorder localizes the Bose condensate for vanishing interaction potential. Ford〉4 a certain strength of the disorder potential is necessary in order to localize the condensate. For the three-dimensional Bogoliubov model our results are in agreement with a recent calculation. We compare our theoretical predictions with numerical experiments for a disordered boson Hubbard model.

Notes: Abstract We calculate the local-field correctionsG(q, q z) f electron superlattices with interlayer distanced in order to describe many-body effects. A generalized Hubbard expression for the local-field correction is derived. The sum-rule version of the self-consistent approach for the local-field correction is developed and used to discuss the effects of exchange and correlation. The RPA-parameterr s and the ratiod/a * determine the many-body effects.a * is the effective Bohr radius. The stability region for the Fermi liquid behavior of the layered electron gas is discussed: (i) ford≫a * the critical RPA-parameterr sc≫1 is determined by exchange andintraplane correlation effects, (ii) ford≈a * withr sc≈1 correlation effects are small and the instability point is mainly determined by exchange effects, (iii) ford≪a * withr sc〈1 exchange andinterplane correlation effects are both important for the instability point. Our results are important for high-T c superconductors, organic superconductors and semiconductor superlattices.

Notes: Abstract Magnetic properties of frozen solutions of highly oxidized iron porphyrin complexes were investigated by EPR and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The Mössbauer spectra, recorded at low temperatures in various magnetic fields, were analyzed on the basis of spin Hamiltonian simulations. Spin coupling between ferryl iron (FeIV) and porphyrin cation radical was taken into account explicitly. Hyperfine and spin-coupling parameters are given for several complexes, together with zero-field parameters. One of the complexes exhibits weak spin coupling, it is the first model system exhibiting properties comparable to those of the oxoferryl cation radical enzyme Horse Radish Peroxidase I.

Notes: Abstract For a superlattice with periodd the Singwi et al. (Phys. Rev.176, 589 (1968)) approach for the local-field correction and the static structure factor is formulated. With two approximations we reduce the resulting three-dimensional integral-equation into a one-dimensional integral-equation. For the local-field correction we present analytical results for small wave numbers and large wave numbers. An expression of Hubbard-typ is derived for the local-field correction. Explicit results for boson superlattices and electron superlattice are given. A charge-density-wave instability in a layered Bose condensate withr s〉rsc∝d3/4 is discovered.r s is the small parameter of the random-phase-approximation. The charge-density-wave instability is due to a many-body anomaly (short-range correlations) in layered structures and is a general property of layered quantum liquids. We find the charge-density-wave instability in a layered electron gas forr s〉rsc∝d. Double-quantum-well structures are also considered. The effects of a finite well width is calculated. The general implications of the charge-density-wave instability for microscopically layered quantum liquids are pointed out.

Notes: Abstract We calculate the transport properties of a disordered Bose condensate. A superlattice made from two-dimensional planes of bosons in the condensate phase is considered. The disorder is due to charged impurities. We consider a homogeneous distribution of impurities and also impurities randomly distributed in planes. The dispersion relation of the collective excitations (plasmons) for the clean boson superlattice is calculated. The disorder induced phase transiton from a superfluid phase to an insulator phase is discussed and the static conductivity (σ c ) at the transition point is expressed in terms of the microscopic parameters of the model. For strongly coupled planes we find thatσ c is of ordere 2/h. The relation of our theoretical results to experiments with high-temperature superconductors is discussed.
