    Description: Underway temperature and salinity data was collected along the cruise track with two autonomous measurement systems, called self-cleaning monitoring boxes (SMBs). Usually, the SMBs are changed after 24 hours. While temperature is taken at the water inlet in about 4 m depth, salinity is estimated within the SMB from conductivity and interior temperature. Salinity was calibrated for each box independently against discrete water samples (see additional attachment). No temperature calibration was performed.     Description: Upper-ocean velocities along the cruise track of Sonne cruise SO286 were continuously collected by a vessel-mounted Teledyne RD Instruments 75 kHz Ocean Surveyor ADCP. The transducer was located at 6.0 m below the water line. The instrument was operated in narrowband mode with 8 m bins and a blanking distance of 8.0 m, while 100 bins were recorded using a pulse of 1.41 s. The ship's velocity was calculated from position fixes obtained by the Global Positioning System (GPS). Heading, pitch and roll data from the ship's gyro platforms and the navigation data were used by the data acquisition software VmDas internally to convert ADCP velocities into earth coordinates. Accuracy of the ADCP velocities mainly depends on the quality of the position fixes and the ship's heading data. Further errors stem from a misalignment of the transducer with the ship's centerline. Data post-processing included water track calibration of the misalignment angle (-0.16° +/- 0.5311°) and scale factor (0.9985 +/- 0.0084) of the Ocean Surveyor signal. The average interval was set to 60 s. Velocity quality flagging is based on following threshold criteria: abs(UC) or abs(VC) 〉 1.5 m/s, rms(UC_z) or rms(VC_z) 〉 0.3.

Heading, pitch and roll data from the ship's gyro platforms and the navigation data were used by the data acquisition software VmDas internally to convert ADCP velocities into earth coordinates. Accuracy of the ADCP velocities mainly depends on the quality of the position fixes and the ship's heading data. Further errors stem from a misalignment of the transducer with the ship's centerline. Data post-processing included water track calibration of the misalignment angle (0.03° +/- 0.8820°) and scale factor (1.0025 +/- 0.0133) of the Ocean Surveyor signal. The average interval was set to 60 s.

    Description: Raw data acquired by position sensors on board RV SONNE during expedition SO280 were processed to receive a validated master track which can be used as reference of further expedition data. During SO280 the motion reference unit Kongsberg SeaTex AS MRU-5 combined with Kongsberg SeaTex AS Seapath 320 and two GPS receivers SAAB MGL-4 were used as navigation sensors. Data were downloaded from DAVIS SHIP data base (https://dship.bsh.de) with a resolution of 1 sec. Processing and evaluation of the data is outlined in the data processing report. Processed data are provided as a master track with 1 sec resolution derived from the position sensors' data selected by priority and a generalized track with a reduced set of the most significant positions of the master track.

    Description: Swath sonar bathymetry data used for that dataset was recorded during RV SONNE during cruise SO280 using Kongsberg EM 710 multibeam echosounder. The cruise took place between 08.01.2021 - 07.02.2021 in the Atlantic Ocean. Data were recorded throughout the whole time spend outside EEZs, the survey around Mt. Josephine took place on the 30.1. & 31.1.2021. The approximate average depth of the submitted dataset is around 1000m. To enhance MBES data accuracy, sound velocity profile casts were conducted in the vicinity of the working area prior to the survey using CTD rosette. Data were manually edited for false measurements using Qimera. The data product is a gridded geotiff with 10m resolution (negative values), WGS84 as vertical datum and UTM28N as a projection of one of the study areas at Mount Josephine. The data processing and provision was accomplished within work package 2 of the EU Horizon 2020 project iAtlantic- Integrated Assessment of Atlantic Marine Ecosystem in Space and Time and the IceAge project.

The cruise took place between 05.11.2021 - 08.12.2021 in the Atlanic Ocean. Data were recorded throughout the whole time spend outside EEZs. The approximate average depth of the entire dataset is around 4000m. To enhance MBES data accuracy, sound velocity profile casts were conducted in the vicinity of the working area prior to the survey using CTD rosette. During transits, sound velocity profile from the WOA13 were aplied via Sound Speed Manager Software. After processing, these data were directly imported into the MBES Acquisition software Kongsberg SIS Seafloor Information System. Data were manually edited for false measurements using Qimera. A raster was calculated and stored in GeoTIFF format with a 100m resolution (negative values), WGS84 as vertical datum and UTM as a projection. Data products include ungridded soundings, a bathymetric grid (100 m resolution) and an uncalibrated backscatter grid (200m resolution). The data processing and provision was accomplished within work package 2 of the EU Horizon 2020 project iAtlantic- Integrated Assessment of Atlantic Marine Ecosystem in Space and Time (https://www.iatlantic.eu/) IceAge project (https://www.iceage-project.org/).
