    Description: Along a section through the Baltic from the Belt Sea to the Landsort Deep during May 1962 investigations have been carried out concerning the progress of the spring bloom of the phytoplankton. This was met in its extreme in the Gotland basin with high mean values of chlorophyll and microbiomass up to 3,0 µg Chl/l resp. 179 μg Mb/l in the surface layer. The percentage of detritus increases generally from SW to NE as a consequence of digestion and sedimentation processes and those of primary production. The concentration of the total organic carbon depends as well on the high quantity of allochthonous humic substances which originates from the freshwater inflow as from autochthonous organic substances which have recently been built up by the spring bloom. The quantity of organic carbon ranges between 2020 and 4630 μg C/l. The average values amount at the surface layer to 3680 μg C/l and at the deep layer to 3050 μg C/l. This is caused for a good deal by the high concentration of humic substances in the surface layer.

    Description: Aus einem Material von je 1600 Seston- und Eiweißbestimmungen, die im Rahmen der deutschen Beteiligung am Polarfront-Programm des IGY gewonnen wurden, werden hier mittlere Tiefenverteilungswerte für diese beiden Komponenten der partikulären Substanz errechnet. Dabei ergeben sich Mittelwerte des Sestons für die Oberfläche zwischen 580 und 1810 µg/1 und für das Eiweiß von 28 bis 65 µg/1. Beide unterliegen in den obersten 50-100 m einer starken Reduktion (27-75%), die z. T. auf Akkumulation, z. T. auf Mineralisation zurückzuführen ist. Die Einzelwerte für große Tiefen (〉 1000 m) bewegen sich oft an der Grenze der Nachweisbarkeit; die Mittel betragen für das Südgebiet bei 1480 m Tiefe 100 bzw. 80 µg Seston und 6 bzw. 17 µg Eiweiß/l. Aus den Eiweißanalysen wird mit Hilfe tiefenvariabler Faktoren der Gehalt an lebender Substanz errechnet und daraus wieder durch Differenzbildung die mittleren Vlerte für den Detritusgehalt im hohen Ozean. Dieser beträgt an der Oberfläche 520 und 1190 µg/1 und sein Anteil im Spätwinter bzw. Spätsommer am Seston 76 und 79%. Ferner wird ein Vergleich zwischen Mittelwerten der gelösten organischen Substanz (n. Duursma) und denen der lebenden Substanz angestellt. Die Relation beider zu einander beträgt während der Sommeruntersuchungen 14.0 : 1 (51-100 m) bis 48.1 : 1 (401-500 m).

    Description: 1964 wurden in der Eckernförder Bucht hydrographische und produktionsbiologische Untersuchungen durchgeführt, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf der Bestimmung des partikulären Kohlenstoffs und des partikulären Phosphors lag. Die erhaltenen Resultate werden in Diagrammen gezeigt. In 1964 combined hydrographic and productivity measurements were started in the Bay of Eckernförde with recently developed instruments. Especially the recording instruments for determination of total and particulate organic carbon and particulate phosphorus were examined. Some results are given in diagrams, which offer an idea of the hydrographical situation and the start of the spring bloom of phytoplankton.

    Description: Es wird ein Geräit beschrieben, mit dem man sechs 5-Liter-Wasserproben aus beliebigen Wassertiefen entnehmen kann. Die Schöpfer werden elektromagnetisch geschlossen. Durch Zusatzgeräte lassen sich verschiedene Parameter kontinuierlich registrieren (z. B. t° C, S ‰, Tiefe, Oberlicht, Lichtextinktion). Dies ermöglicht je nach Fragestellung eine gezielte Probennahme. An apparatus is described which makes it possible to obtain six 5-liter walersamples from arbitrary depths. The waterbottles are closed electromagnetically. By means of accessory apparatus various parameters can be registered continuously (e.g. t°, S ‰, depth, downward light, lightextinction). This will make it possible to take samples at representative depths, which are most relevant to the problem under investigation.
