Notes: Fractions of seven protein principles with fibrinolytic or thrombin-like activities obtained from Agkistrodon acutus snake venom purified by two steps of normal pressure chromatography were separated further by capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE). Mass determination for these fractions were achieved by performing laser desorption/ionization mass monitoring (LDIM). The comparative study between CZE and LDIM on the separation of these fractions was made.

Notes: The iodide ion sensitivity of a solid-supported bilayer lipid membrane (s-BLM) containing buckminsterfullerene(C60) as an electron mediator has been investigated using the cyclic voltammetry technique. We have shown that C60 in a lipid bilayer environment produces a unique and simple system for the detection of iodide. The sensitivity of C60-containing s-BLM to I- is excellent with a linear response in the range from 10-8 to 10-2 M. The use of fullerene C60-doped s-BLMs as sensors and devices for detecting other species is proposed.

Notes: It was found that unlike the electroosmotic flow, the electrophoretic mobilities of small peptides in capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) were invariant over the buffer concentration range studied. Migration of these peptides in CZE is a electroosmotic-governed process. The quantitative linear relationships between the logarithm of migration times (log tm) and the reciprocal of column temperature were investigated under different buffer concentrations to study the activation energies of diffusion (AED) as the function of the buffer concentration. The preexponential factors were quantitatively correlated with the structural parameters of the peptides studied. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: The stability constants of the ternary mixed ligand complex Cu(pdphen) (ATP)2-, where pdphen is the planar ligand pyrido(3,2-f) (1,7)phenanthroline, were determined by potentiometric pH titration in water, and in 30 and 50% (v/v) aqueous dioxane solutions. It has been observed from this information that a stronger stacking interaction between pdphen and the base of ATP exists and decreases with decreasing solvent polarity, i.e. increasing amounts of dioxane in the solvent mixture.
