Description: We present palaeoecological records of pollen and macro-charcoal particles used to reconstruct the vegetation and fire history of the Araucaria araucana forest close to the steppe. We obtained the core from a small lake (〈1ha, surface) located in 38°58'39"S; 71° 4'51"W, at 1268 m a.s.l. To process the pollen and macro-charcoal from the sediment samples, we followed Bennett and Willis (2001), and Withlock and Larsen (2001) protocols. We took 176 pollen samples of 0.5 cm3 along the core, avoiding tephra layers. The samples were not sieved. We counted at least 400 pollen grains per sample using a light microscope at 400-1000x. We extracted sub-samples of one cubic centimetre contiguously every centimetre and sieved in a 125 µm mesh. We counted the charcoal particles in a stereomicroscope.
