Summary The influence of crystallization on the mechanical relaxation of polyethylenterephthalate was investigated by means of a bending wave apparatus. It is shown that during isothermal crystallization the glass transition temperature increases with increasing degree of crystallinity. On the other hand, for samples crystallized at different temperatures the glass transition temperature obtained at the end of the crystallization process plotted against the degree of crystallinity goes through a maximum in agreement with results obtained by other investigators. Our results show that the maximum in glass temperature is caused by the different values of the crystallization temperature rather than by different degrees of crystallinity. From the frequency dependence of the glass transition temperature on enthalpy and entropy of activation is determined. These qualities are used for the discussion of the results.
Notes:
