Résumé Dans la période de Juillet 1992 à Avril 1994, 40 patients présentant des fractures transtrochantériennes ont eu un traitement chirurgical par fixateur externe. Ces cas ont été sélectionnés à cause du grand risque chirurgical qu'ils présentaient. L'évaluation radiographique a été faite en période post-opératoire immédiate, puis à 30 et à 90 jours. Les résultats ont été analysés en fonction de l'évolution clinique et de la consolidation osseuse. Ce travail montre que le fixateur externe utilisé dans les fractures inter-trochantériennes est une bonne méthode pour les patients présentant un risque chirurgical élevé.

Summary Forty patients with intertrochanteric fractures of the femur were treated by external fixation between July 1992 and April 1994. They were selected because of their high surgical risk, and evaluated by radiographs immediately after operation, and at 30 and 90 days. The results indicate that external fixation is a useful method of treatment for this type of patient.
