Summary A prospective trial was carried out comparing the use of four different forms of hand bags and also a conventional boxing glove dressing in the treatment of superficial burns of the hand. The methods were a plain polythene bag, a polythene bag plus Flamazine, a Silastic glove and an Opsite sandwich dressing. The various groups were assessed for comfort, speed of healing, mobility of the hand, bacteriology and antibiotics and nursing acceptability. The hand bags appeared to have an advantage in ease of application and in allowing the patient independence. It is suggested that an antiseptic cream should be added to the bags when used.
