Summary The phosphate esters of some stilboestrol analogues inhibit the reconstitution of the aspartate aminotransferase, i.e. the reactivation of the apoenzyme with the coenzymes (pyridoxal phosphate and pyridoxamine phosphate). The inhibition is the consequence of an interaction between the apoenzyme and the phosphate esters, with formation of an inactive complex. The extent of the interaction, which is given by the dissociation constant of the inactive complex, can be evaluated by two distinct procedures. An attempt is made to correlate the structure of the phosphate esters and their affinity for the apoenzyme.
