Bei der Umsetzung von Bicycloheptadien (I) mit Fluorwasserstoff wird überwiegend Nortricyclylfluorid (VII) gebildet. HCl und HBr in wäßriger Lösung führen I gleichfalls bevorzugt in das stabilere Nortricyclylhalogenid über. Dieses entsteht ausschließlich, wenn bei der Addition von HCl Zinkchlorid zugesetzt wird. - Nortricyclanol (V) reagiert mit HF, HCl/ZnCl2 sowie PCl5 zu den entsprechenden Nortricyclylhalogeniden. Durch Umsetzung von Nortricyclen mit HF entsteht Norbornylfluorid, das auch durch Addition von HF an Norbornen erhalten werden kann.
