Abstract:
On the surface, the cool, dispassionate precision of a super-realist painting would not seem to have much in common with the high-energy heat of a Shepard play. But the term "super-realist" (or "hyperrealist") has crept into discussions of contemporary drama, especially Sam Shepard's plays of the past few years (from Curse of the Starving Class on). The term "super-realist" is also frequently applied to the new style of acting Shepard's plays seem to have required and which now can be seen in many Off-Broadway productions.
