image The lectin endosialin is upregulated in human liver fibrosis. Endosialin KO mice present reduced liver fibrosis and increased regeneration upon pathological challenge, exemplifying the balance between liver fibrosis and hepatocyte proliferation. The C‐type lectin endosialin ( CD 248) is selectively expressed in the liver by hepatic stellate cells. Human liver fibrosis is associated with a pronounced upregulation of endosialin in the stromal compartment. Endosialin‐deficient mice present reduced liver fibrosis and increased liver regeneration upon pathological challenge.
