Abstract:
One of the district administrations in the middle part of Hesse has set up a network which currently includes 70 libraries – school libraries, combined school and public libraries as well as the regional media centre there. Having won several awards the network stands for a unique basis for teaching media and information skills to pupils and teachers alike. Other aspects of the work done by specialised staff of the district administration in question include: setting up an information technology infrastructure as well as central library services, giving assistance to volunteers, administering the manifold ways of communication between the services centre and its network partners, giving financial support, providing access to centrally licensed databases and establishing profitable cooperations.
