Abstract:
Anomalies in long‐lived trace gases in the exceptionally strong 2019/2020 stratospheric polar vortex are studied using Aura MLS measurements Fall/early winter trace gas anomalies arose mainly from entrainment of existing anomalies into the developing vortex followed by descent Inhibition of mixing between air within and outside of the strong and persistent vortex led to midwinter/spring transport anomalies
