Abstract:
The ABCDE (airway, breathing, circulation, disability, and exposure) scheme is an integral part of resuscitation room care for nontrauma patients. While respiratory and circulatory problems as well as vigilance reduction and neurological emergencies make up the majority of the spectrum of illnesses in critically ill patients, so-called “E problems” are rather rare at 0.4–0.9%. In this review article, we discuss E problems in more detail and address the management of typical E problems such as hypo/hyperthermia, intoxications/overdoses, recumbency trauma, severe pain, and agitation states.
