Abstract:
Catalytic transesterification, with high conversion and selectivity, promoted by supported KF in glycerol and dimethyl carbonate under mild condition, is reported. In the present study, KF immobilized on hydroxyapatite encapsulated spherical γ‐Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles were synthesized and the catalyst was modified on the surface with CTAB. KF/HAP‐γ‐Fe 2 O 3 was characterized by a series of techniques including CO 2 ‐TPD, XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, VSM, FTIR and the contact angle measurement of glycerol. It was demonstrated that the use of CTAB improved the surface wettability of the catalyst and facilitated the contact of the catalyst with the reactants. KF/HAP‐γ‐Fe 2 O 3 exhibited highly efficient catalytic activity with 97.5% yield. With magnetism, the solid base catalyst was easily recovered and reused for five times without significant loss of activity (up to 90%) for the transesterification reaction.
