Abstract: The effective light‐emitting area of Micro‐LED display take up only 10%∼20% of the whole pixel due to its ultra‐high brightness, enabling the integration of multi‐functional devices like sensors and integrated circuits into each pixel of the array. Therefore, a Micro‐LED array embedded with photodetectors can develop the light‐responsive capabilities. The LEDs present emission mode under forward biasing, and the photodetectors perform sensing mode under non‐forward biasing. Then a periodic switching between these two modes is realized by active matrix driving with a 3T2C structure. In order to reduce the complexity of circuits routing, we utilize the same data line to input the display signals and extract light signals by a multiplexer control circuit. It switches so fast that to human eyes the display appears to stay on continuously and at the same time the ambient light can also be detected. The ultra‐high resolution and light‐responsive ability of the Micro‐LED arrays open up a feasible route to a variety of advanced applications, for example, interactive display, which consists of under‐screen fingerprint identification, adaptive brightness control, touchless gestural recognition. Besides display, other applications like light‐activated electronic whiteboard and near field optical communication (NFOC) will also be covered.
