Abstract:
What's already known about this topic? Postnatally, up to 12% of patients with periventricular nodular heterotopia (PVNH) have enlarged retrocerebellar space. Only rare prenatal cases have been reported. Identification of PVNH impacts on prenatal counselling. What does this study add? This is the first prenatal series illustrating such an association. Detecting a posterior fossa cyst in a fetus should prompt a thorough analysis of the lateral ventricles and search for PVNH with US and MRI.
