Abstract:
Pluripotent ESCs generate peripheral lung tissue in Nkx2‐1‐/‐ chimeras. NKX2‐1 establishes the proximal‐peripheral boundary of the airways. ESCs complementation restores b‐catenin signaling and formation of the peripheral acinar buds in Nkx2‐1‐/‐ embryos. NKX2‐1 restricts SOX9 in basal cells to enhance patterning of the peripheral vs proximal lung.
