External beam radiotherapy combined with transarterial chemotherapy and infusion of a vasoconstrictor was administered to 22 patients with advanced hepatic hilar duct carcinoma. Favorable initial responses (1 patient with a complete response [no stenosis], 8 patients with a partial response [relief of stenosis/obstruction] , 11 patients with no change [no significant change in stenosis/obstruction], and 2 patients with progressive deterioration [progressive stenosis/obstruction] ) and prolonged median survival (19.5 months) were obtained.
