Abstract:
A new theory of the nature of silicate melts postulating a distribution of anionic structures is developed to account for the kinetics of the silicate melt‐silica interaction. The theory is applied to published data on the kinetics of this reaction, and correlations are made with recent viscosity studies and with commercial glassmelting practice.
