    Abstract: Traditional serrated adenoma (TSA) remains the least understood of all the colorectal adenomas, although these lesions have been associated with a significant cancer risk, twice that of the conventional adenoma (CAD) and of the sessile serrated adenoma (SSA/P). This study was performed to investigate the proteomic profiles of the different colorectal adenomas to better understand the pathogenesis of TSA. We performed a global quantitative proteome analysis using the label‐free quantification (LFQ) method on 44 colorectal adenoma (12 TSAs, 15 CADs, and 17 SSA/Ps) and 17 normal colonic mucosa samples, archived as formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded blocks. Unsupervised consensus hierarchical clustering applied to the whole proteomic profile of the 44 colorectal adenomas identified four subtypes: C1 and C2 were well‐individualized clusters composed of all the CADs (15/15) and most of the SSA/Ps (13/17), respectively. This is consistent with the fact that CADs and SSA/Ps are homogeneous and distinct colorectal adenoma entities. In contrast, TSAs were subdivided into C3 and C4 clusters, consistent with the more heterogeneous entity of TSA at the morphologic and molecular levels. Comparison of the proteome expression profile between the adenoma subtypes and normal colonic mucosa further confirmed the heterogeneous nature of TSAs, which overlapped either on CADs or SSA/Ps, whereas CADs and SSAs formed homogeneous and distinct entities. Furthermore, we identified LEFTY1 a new potential marker for TSAs that may be relevant for the pathogenesis of TSA. LEFTY1 is an inhibitor of the Nodal/TGFβ pathway, which we found to be one of the most overexpressed proteins specifically in TSAs. This finding was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. Our study confirms that CADs and SSA/Ps form homogeneous and distinct colorectal adenoma entities, whereas TSAs are a heterogeneous entity and may arise from either SSA/Ps or from normal mucosa evolving through a process related to the CAD pathway. © 2019 Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland.     Abstract: Genome‐wide analysis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) strains is essential to better understand infectivity and virulence and to track coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) cases and outbreaks. We performed whole‐genome sequencing of 27 SARS‐CoV‐2 strains isolated between January 2020 and April 2020. A total of 54 mutations in different genomic regions was found. The D614G mutation, first detected in March 2020, was identified in 18 strains and was more likely associated with a lower cycle threshold ( 〈 25) in real‐time reverse‐transcription polymerase chain reaction diagnostic tests than the original D614 (prevalence ratio = 2.75; 95% confidence interval, 1.19–6.38). The integration of sequencing and epidemiological data suggests that SARS‐CoV‐2 transmission in both quarantine areas and in the community in Vietnam occur at the beginning of the epidemic although the country implemented strict quarantine quite early, with strict contact tracing, and testing. These findings provide insights into the nature of the epidemic, as well as shape strategies for COVID‐19 prevention and control in Vietnam.

Developments of novel experimental methodologies and analysis techniques have provided unparalleled insight into the profound impact the microbiota has on the development and function of the immune system. In this cross‐journal review series published in Immunology and Clinical and Experimental Immunology , we aim to summarize the current state of research concerning the interplay between the microbiota and mucosal immunity. In addition, the series examines how the increased understanding of the microbiota is changing the nature of immunological research, both in the laboratory and in the clinic.

    Abstract: This position statement represents a consensus of an expert committee convened by the European Society of Endodontology (ESE) on the endodontic management of traumatized permanent teeth. A recent comprehensive review with detailed background information provides the basis for this position statement (Krastl et al. 2021, International Endodontic Journal , https://doi.org/10.1111/iej.13508 ). The statement is based on current scientific evidence as well as the expertise of the committee. Complementing the recently revised guidelines of the International Association of Dental Traumatology, this position statement aims to provide clinical guidance for the choice of the appropriate endodontic approach for traumatized permanent teeth. Given the dynamic nature of research in this area, this position statement will be updated at appropriate intervals.

    Abstract: To analyse and visualize the knowledge structure of scientific articles in the field of Endodontology with high altmetric attention scores to discover hot topics, active researchers and the journals involved. Methodology On 5 June 2019, the altmetric database (Altmetric LLP, London, UK) was searched using the titles of 11 endodontic journals. Bibliometric data from endodontic articles and journals with an altmetric score 〉 5 (top 5%) were retrieved from PubMed and analysed using the VOSviewer. Science mapping of articles with an altmetric score 〉 5 at two levels was created: author keywords co‐occurrence and co‐authorship network analysis. Results Of the 2197 articles in the field of Endodontology identified with altmetrics, 192 had altmetric scores 〉 5 (top 5%). Considering the total mentions amongst all altmetric resources, the Journal of Endodontics had the highest rank followed by the International Endodontic Journal and Australian Endodontic Journal. Twitter was the most popular altmetric data resource followed by patents and Facebook. Meta‐analysis, systematic review and pulpitis were the hot topics. At the author level, Dummer P.M.H had the greatest influence on the network. There was no significant correlation between altmetric score and citations count ( P  〉  0.05). Mendeley mentions correlated with citations ( P   〈  0.05). Conclusions Overall, the altmetric scores of topics within Endodontology were low, possibly due to the specific and specialized nature of the specialty, as well as the difficulty members of the public probably have in understanding endodontic research. Journals and researchers with a focus on Endodontology would have more influence if they were to set‐up their own social media profiles and thus enhance their visibility and social impact by immediately sharing research findings and communicating with their network and audience.

    Abstract: The network approach facilitates an exploration of direct and potentially causal relations among symptoms of psychological disorders, yet most prior research utilizing this approach has done so using cross‐sectional data. This commentary highlights the importance of longitudinal network approaches, as depicted in the study conducted by Funkhouser et al. ( Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry , 2020), and describes two possible key extensions of this approach: (a) accounting for risk markers, etiological mechanisms, and other nonsymptoms within longitudinal network models, and (b) continued exploration of longitudinal within‐person networks with attention to personalized treatment applications. Inclusion of these extensions in future longitudinal network studies could provide new insights into the nature of psychopathology and inform the development of more precise screening tools and targeted, personalized interventions.

    Abstract: The contention that supportive and sensitive parenting is important to healthy emotional and behavioral development of children is a widely accepted maxim. There is also increasing consensus among developmentalists about the nature of optimal parenting practices. However, what remains under appreciated is just how powerful an influence these positive elements of caregiving have in shaping, driving, and fortifying a healthy developmental trajectory across multiple domains of function. The notion that positive caregiving is an ‘essential ingredient’ necessary for healthy human development has become increasingly evident. Importantly, both animal and human data have established that there are early sensitive periods, representing windows of opportunity, during which optimal caregiving has its most powerful effects (Curley & Champagne, Frontiers in neuroendocrinology, 40 , 52, 2016; Nelson et al., Science, 318 , 1937, 2007). These points are underscored by papers in this volume showing the sustained effects of early parenting interventions focused on enhancing attachment relationship (Zajac, Raby, & Dozier, Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 57 , 1099, 2019). Using another parenting program, Brody, Yu, Miller, and Chen ( Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 2019) report longitudinal data showing mechanistic pathways by which the effects of enhanced caregiving impact later adaptive functioning in a high risk sample. These findings suggest that early parenting interventions may have uniquely positive and enduring effects highlighting their unique importance as a focus for developmental enhancement.

    Abstract: The approach utilized a systematic review of the medical literature executed with specifically designed criteria that focused on the etiologies and pathogenesis of hypoparathyroidism. Enhanced attention by endocrine surgeons to new knowledge about parathyroid gland viability are reviewed along with the role of intraoperative parathyroid hormone (ioPTH) monitoring during and after neck surgery. Nonsurgical etiologies account for a significant proportion of cases of hypoparathyroidism (~25%), and among them, genetic etiologies are key. Given the pervasive nature of PTH deficiency across multiple organ systems, a detailed review of the skeletal, renal, neuromuscular, and ocular complications is provided. The burden of illness on affected patients and their caregivers contributes to reduced quality of life and social costs for this chronic endocrinopathy. © 2022 The Authors.     Abstract: The confluence of immunology and oncology has led to a lot of uncertainty and questions about relevant biomarkers. Despite the complexity of the tumour microenvironment, most clinical studies have relied on a single‐parameter immunohistochemical assay to prospectively select patients for checkpoint inhibitor therapy; the results of this strategy have been highly variable and often less than optimal. While great efforts have been made to identify additional or alternative biomarkers, pathologists, drug developers, and clinicians alike have faced technical, logistical, and regulatory challenges on how to implement them successfully. In this review, we will discuss these challenges; we will also highlight recent advances in dissecting the functional diversity of immune cell populations within the tumour microenvironment and their potential for improved, biomarker‐driven therapeutic strategies. The dynamic nature and cellular diversity of the tumour microenvironment may challenge past models of a single biomarker predicting patient response and clinical outcome. © 2021 The Authors.     Abstract: To understand the evolution of the field of prenatal diagnosis over the past four decades. Method We analyzed the publications in the journal Prenatal Diagnosis from its inception in 1980 to 2019 using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) to examine the major research topics and trends. The results were analyzed by 10‐year intervals. Results Publications on prenatal cytogenetics, congenital anomalies and fetal imaging predominated during the first three decades, with a steady increase in molecular genetics over time. Publications on NIPT did not appear until the most recent decade and are likely under‐counted because there was no MeSH term for NIPT until 2020. Conclusion The topics covered in Prenatal Diagnosis articles have evolved considerably over the past four decades and reflect a response to advances in technology and widespread incorporation of prenatal screening and diagnosis into standard obstetric care. The strengths of this analysis are its objective nature, its use of the standard MeSH terms used for coding, and application of a novel cluster analysis to visualize trends. The analysis also pointed out the fact that MeSH terms in this sub‐specialty area are often inconsistent due to manually coding based on individual subject matter expertise.
