Abstract: This research was designed to determine the effects of molasses supplementation as a water-soluble carbohydrate source on silo fermentation, microbiology, in vitro gas production and relative feed values of pea (Pisum Sativum L.) silage. For this purpose, pea plant was harvested during the pod period. After harvesting, they were crushed to a size of 1.5-2.0 cm and molasses were added at 0 (control), 15, 30, 45 and 60 g/kg fresh material, respectively. Molasses supplementation affected (P & lt;0.01) the composition of nutrients of pea silage. Depending on level of molasses supplementation, crude protein, crude oil, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber and acid detergent lignin contents of pea silage decreased, dry matter, crude ash and water soluble carbohydrate contents of pea silage increased (P & lt;0.01). Molasses supplementation decreased pH, acetic acid, butyric acid and ammonia nitrogen contents of pea silage, whereas lactic acid and propionic acid contents of pea silage increased (P & lt;0.01). Likewise, the supplementation of molasses increased (P & lt;0.01) in vitro gas production, organic matter digestibility and metabolizable energy contents of pea silage.  In addition, molasses supplementation positively affected (P & lt;0.01) the relative feed value and dry matter intake of pea silages.  As a result of the research, the use of molasses in water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) insufficient pea silage, improved the feed value and fermentation characteristics of pea silages.

Abstract: The research was carried out to determine hay yield and nutrient content of Phacelia tanacetifolia Bentham harvested at budding, 50 % of flowering and full flowering stages in 2017 and 2018 in the ecological conditions of Kahramanmaras. According to the results, plant height, fresh hay yield and dry hay yield ranged from 40.03-83.12 cm, 535-1332.3 kg da-1 and 69.36-338.48 kg da-1, respectively. When chemical constituents were taken into consideration, crude ash (HK), crude protein (HP), ether extract (HY), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) ranged from 14.05-19.17, 6.45-9.65, 2.20-3.05, 25.4-30.63 and 41.49-47.84%, respectively. The gas production, methane production, metabolizable energy (ME) and organic matter digestibility (OMSD) of Phacelia tanacetifolia Bentham ranged from 41.70-48.18 ml, 4.62-5.19 ml, 8.24-9.32 MJ /kg DM and 64.01-74.53 %, respectively. Although plant height, hay yield, cell wall contents increased with increasing maturity, crude protein, metabolizable energy and organic matter digestibility decreased. Therefore, it is recommended that Phacelia tanacetifolia Bentham can be harvested in the first two vegetation periods in order to obtain good quality hay for ruminant animals.

Abstract: This research was carried out to determine the chemical composition, relative feed values (RFV), in vitro gas production (IVGP), metabolic energy (ME), and organic matter digestion (OMD). of the straw of Yekta, Linas, Dinçer, Göktürk, Zirkon, Olas, and Balcı safflower cultivars harvested as oilseed plants in Kahramanmaraş in August. (Research findings revealed that there are significant differences in chemical composition between safflower straw cultivars (P & lt;0.001). Crude protein (HP) of safflower straw varieties 6.49-10.51%, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) 40.28-46.50%, acid detergent fiber (ADF) 34.79-39.73%, raw ash (HK) 10.04%-10.65%, relative feed values (RFV) 116.79-142.67, metabolic energy 7.58-8.53 MJ kg-1 KM, organic matter digestion (OMD) 55.11-61.88%, methane production rate 10.68-11.94%. The Dinçer cultivar stood out with its HP ratio of 10.51%, NDF ratio of 40.28%, ADF ratio of 34.79%, and NYD of 142.67. Metabolic energy (ME) and organic matter digestion (OMD), respectively; Linas variety stood out with 8.53 MJ kg-1 KM and 61.88%. In terms of gas production, Göktürk stood out with 33.91 ml and Linas with 10.68% in terms of methane production. As a result, it can be said that cultivars can be a potential source of forage and in vivo studies are needed to see their effects on feed consumption amounts.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to determine the effect of harvest stage on the chemical composition, metabolisable energy and dry matter digestibility of A. andrachne leaves. Harvesting stage had a significant effect on the chemical composition, metabolisable energy and dry matter digestibility of leaves of A. andrachne. The IVDMD of the leaves of A. andrachne ranged from 28.56 to 67.73 %.  The highest IVDMD was obtained in January and April whereas the lowest IVDMD was obtained in October. The ME contents of the leaves of A. andrachne ranged from 3.11 to 9.02 MJ/kg DM.  The highest IVDMD was obtained in January whereas the lowest IVDMD content was obtained in October.  As conclusion the chemical composition, IVDMD and ME content of the leaves ranged with harvesting time. Leaves of A. andrachne should be supplemented with protein, P, Cu and Mn minerals sources to meet the requirement of sheep and goat since the leaves of A. andrachne harvested in four periods were low in crude protein and minerals.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of growing sites on the chemical composition, in vitro gas production, methane production, metabolisable energy, organic matter digestibility, true digestibility, microbial protein production and efficiency of microbial protein synthesis of Salix babylonica leaves by in vitro gas production technique. The chemical composition, in vitro gas production, methane production, metabolisable energy, organic matter digestibility, true digestibility, microbial protein production and efficiency of microbial protein synthesis of Salix babylonica leaves ranged with growing site. Crude protein, condensed tannin, methane production, metabolisable energy, organic matter digestibility, true digestibility, true digestible dry matter, partitioning factor, microbial protein production and efficiency of microbial protein synthesis ranged from 9.26 to 14.78%, 2.07 to 5.75%, 10.10 to 11.93%, 6.91 to 8.18 MJ/kg KM, 53.46 to 55.25%, 60.40 to 84.46% and 305.17 to 472.26 mg, 4.04 to 4.69, 146.11 to 227.06 mg, 46.86 to 54.45%, respectively. It was found that Salix babylonica leaves studied not only provide with nutrients for ruminant but also have potential for mitigating of enteric methane produced during fermentation. Selection of feedstuffs should be conducted not only using gas production data but also fermentation parameters such as true digestibility, microbial protein production etc., which make it possible to make a sound decision about feedstuffs. Further in vivo studies are needed to test the results obtained from such experiments.

Abstract: The aim of the current experiment was to determine the effect of inclusion of oak acorn on the gas production, methane production, digestibility, partitioning factor, microbial protein production, and efficiency of microbial protein protein production of lamb diets. In this project, oak acorn was included into lamb diets at the ratio of 0, 10, 20 and 30%. The inclusion of oak acorn decreased the gas production, methane production, and digestibility whereas inclusion of oak acorn increased partitioning factor, microbial protein and efficiency of microbial protein production. Gas and methane production ranged from 89.93 to 129.22 mL and 10.43 to 19.65 mL. Percentage of methane production ranged from %11.53 to 15.22. Digestibility ranged from 61.63 to 72.90%. Partitioning factor and microbial protein production ranged from 3.38 to 4.10 and 128.57 to 143.91 m respectively. Efficiency of microbial protein production ranged from 34.80 to 46.31%. Although oak acorn had an anti-methanogenic potential, oak acorn decreased the digestibility. It seems to be very difficult to determine the proper inclusion dose of oak acorn. Therefore in vivo digestibility studies are required to determine the proper inclusion dose of oak acorn to lamb diets.

Abstract: The research was carried out to determine the potential nutritional value, methane production and condense tannin content of fenugreek grass, which was harvested at different harvest times in 2017-2018 growing season in Kahramanmaraş ecological conditions. Results indicated that, while the harvest times did not affect the proportion of fenugreek grass condense tannins, the other criteria examined were affected significantly (P≤0.01). Also, with the progress of harvest time, crude oil, crude ash, crude protein content were decreased, while dry matter, acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber ratios were increased (P≤0.01). When the gas and methane measurement value of fenugreek samples measured at 24 hours was examined; metabolic energy (ME), organic matter digestibility (OMSD), total gas production, and methane production were 8.75-9.86 MJ/kg KM, 64.26-73.40%, 41.91-52.18 ml and 8.75-9.86%. respectively. When the research findings were examined, it could be said that harvesting fenugreek grass before and during the 50% flowering period can be suggested in terms of feed value and methane production.
