Abstract:
The abstract is a discursive genre with an autonomous nature in the academic field. Research into the structure and composition of abstracts has been carried out in a variety of languages, and these characteristics vary according to the language or field of knowledge, among others. This research aims to find out what are the characteristics of the abstracts written in Basque in the field of Social Sciences. To this end, the Basque language summaries published since the creation of the Ikastorratza journal have been analyzed in articles originally published in Basque. Considering Hyland's model (2000), the fundamental quantitative and discursive characteristics of these texts have been examined, together with their evolution over time. The results show heterogeneous patterns and a lack of discursive systematization in the construction of these texts. All of this has implications for the teaching of academic writing.
