Abstract: Royal Jelly is a bee product with high protein content is a unique nutrient for the queen honeybee. It leads to a substantial elongation of the lifetime of the queen in comparison to the worker honeybees via anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-cancer and anti-microbial properties. Flavonoids naturally have reported to have anticancer activities thanks to their potent antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity of RJ is attributed to its rich flavonoid content however anti-oxidant activities of the Bingöl RJ has yet to be explored in detail. The goal of the current study was to investigate the antioxidant activities of Bingöl RJ on SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells. The results of our study revealed that Bingöl RJ at a concentration of 0.3 mg/ml significantly augmented ROS level in SH-SY5Y cells while 0.5 mg/ml of RJ had almost no effect on ROS levels. The levels of malondialdehyde in SH-SY5Y cells considerably increased in the presence of 0.3 mg/ml RJ while 0.5 mg/ml RJ had no significant impact on MDA levels in SH-SY5Y cells. The results showed that RJ treatment 0.3 mg/ml) significantly lowered the activities of SOD and CAT activity while 0.5 mg/ml of RJ had negligible effect indicating that RJ could protect the cell membranes from radical mediated cell injuries.

Abstract: Multidrugresistance is an important factor limiting the effect of chemotherapy on cancer treatment. Disorders of drug transport and apoptosis, deterioration of redox homeostasis are among the main mechanisms that lead to multidrug resistance. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of 5-FU on GST isozymes, drug resistance proteins and apoptotic proteins before and after 5-Flourouracil application on DLD-1 colon cancer cell line. The cytotoxic effect of 5-FU was measured by WST-1test and, the efficiency of drug application was, also, proved by double staining via Hoechst 33342 with Propidium iodide. Next, the expression levels of GST isozymes, drug resistance proteins and apoptotic proteins were determined by immunocytochemistry. The cytotoxic effect of 5-FU at different doses on DLD-1 colon cancer cell line was determined by WST-1 method. MRP-2, 3, 6, 7 of drug resistance proteins; GSTA1, GSTM1, GSTT1, GSTZ1, GSTK1 and GSTO1 of GST proteins; bcl-2, caspase-3, p38, and p53, which are apoptotic proteins, have higher expression in the drug-treated DLD-1 cell line. GSTS1, MDR-1 and MRP-1expressions were not immunocytochemically different. It was determined that there is a direct correlation between the level of cytotoxicity and applied drug concentration. The cytotoxic effect of the drug increased with the increase in the dose of the drug. In this study, as first in the literature, the expression levels of some apoptotic markers, GST isozymes and drug resistance proteinswere evaluated togetherand except GSTS1, MDR-1 and MRP-1, they were all upregulated with respect to the control group after 5-FU administration.

Abstract: We aimed to examine the effect of indigo and yellow 2G (Y2G) dyes, that are also commonly used as food additive and colorant, individually and combination with vitamin C on HepG2 human liver carcinoma cell line proliferation in vitro. MTT assay was applied to investigate the effect of dyes individually combined with vitamin C on HepG2 cells by treatment with different concentrations of these dyes for varying exposure times and performed. Regarding the exposure of HepG2 cells to indigo and Y2G dyes for 24, 48 and 72 h, 50 and 500 µg/ml (p=0.001 and p=0.003 respectively) of indigo at 24 h and 500 µg/ml (p=0.012) at 72 h; it showed that 5 µg/ml of Y2G for 24 h (p=0.004) and 1 µg/ml for 48 and 72 h (p=0.000, p=0.001) had the highest cytotoxic effect. Also, the results indicated that, especially the combinations of “indigo + vitamin C“ significantly increased cytotoxic effects on the HepG2 cell line (p=0.003). The obtained findings provide an exciting insight into the cytotoxic effects of indigo on HepG2 cells, and how they might work together to combat HCC's aggression.

Abstract: A number of new molecular and genetic factors are currently being studied in determining the prognosis of thyroid papillary carcinoma. In our study, we aimed to determine if there was a relationship between prognostic factors and expression of Matrixmatalloproteniase 2 (MMP-2), the tyrosine-kinase receptor CD117 (c-kit) and caspase-3. MMP2, c-kit and caspase-3 by immunohistochemical (IHC) method were studied in both intact and pathological tissue of the thyroid gland removed after surgery in patients with thyroid papillary cancer. Prognostic factors such as age, histological stage, extrathyroidal spread, metastasis, tumor size were also evaluated. There was no statistically significant difference between prognosis and c-kit, MMP-2 and caspase-3 expression in patients (p & gt;0.05). Clinicopathological parameters were thought to be more important than c-kit, caspase 3 and MMP2 in predicting prognosis in thyroid papillary cancers.

Abstract: The investigation of allelopathic and antimicrobial effects of four different plant extracts is the aim of this study. The aqueous extract of plants (Lepidium draba L., Acroptilon repens (L.) DC., Thymus kotchyanus Boiss & amp;Hohen. var. kotchyanus, Inula peacockiana (Aitch. & amp;Hemsl.) Koravin,) were applied to seedlings of cultivated (Pisum sativum L. and Hordeum vulgare L.) and weed (Amaranthus retroflexus L. and Portulaca oleraceae L.). Seedlings were irrigated with aqueous extract (1 %) for 15 days to observe the physiological responses. The morphological changes, chlorophyll levels and phytohormone concentrations were determined. The Lepidium draba and Inula peacockiana extracts affected development of all of the target seedlings and caused lesion on the leaves. Acroptilon repens and Thymus kotschyanus extracts caused a decrease in gibberellic acid (GA) whereas increase in absisic acid (ABA) levels. For investigation of antimicrobial activities, hexane, methanol and water extracts were prepared. Extracts were applied on Bacillus cereus, Staphylococ aureus, Pseudomonas syringae and Escherichia coli for antibacterial and Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus niger for antifungal effects. Inula peacockiana and Acroptilon repens extracts had a great antimicrobial activity. While all plant extracts inhibited Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium oxysporum growth and spore development of Aspergillus niger. The antifungal activity of extracts were better than antibacterial activity. As a conclusion, these plants have allelopathic potential for natural weed control and antimicrobial potential for medicinal uses.

Abstract: Atomic absorption spectrometry facilitates the reliable determination of mineral content during pharmaceutical quality control of medicinal plants. In the present work, measurable amounts of Fe, Ca, Cu, K, Mg, Mn, Na and Zn were detected in the leaves and flowers of Hypericum montbretii Spach. through atomic absorption spectrometry. Mean heavy metal content in the flowers and leaves of H. montbretii Spach. was, in descending order, Ca & gt; Mg & gt; K & gt; Mn & gt; Na. Ca was present in higher concentrations in the leaves (10252.75 ppm) and flowers (7321.94 ppm) of titled plant. Our results reveal that flowers are less suitable as target plant parts for metal accumulation than leaves.
