Abstract:
The first issue of the Urban History Review appeared in February 1972. Since that time, the journal has attempted to adjust to the massive changes that have taken place in the broad field of urban studies. The U.H.R. has grown considerably in size, reflecting the greatly increased activity in the historical study of the Canadian city. This growth has included the presentation of longer articles, the addition of a book review section, the publication of thesis abstracts, and the expansion of our "notes and comments" section. We have also continued to carry articles on urban archives. In addition, the U.H.R. has published several thematic issues and more special issues are planned. A further change has been the addition to our editorial board of scholars from fields other than history, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of urban studies. Finally, we have published articles reporting on the state of urban studies in other countries and we plan to continue to include articles or comments on non-Canadian developments of interest to Canadian scholars.
