Abstract:
JEAN GIONO AND « COLLABORATIONISM » : NATURE AND POLITICAL DESTINY What were Giono' s politics during the German Occupation in France ? Despite affirmations to the contrary by his biographer, P. Citron, in the collaborationist press, in the 1942 novel/essay « Triomphe de la vie » and in his «Journal de l'Occupation» (1995), Giono expressed views similar to those expressed by Vichy ideologues and even the nazis themselves. But the writer's reactionary vision dates from well before the war, and is demonstrated in his 1930 fictional masterpiece, « Regain ».
