Abstract: The Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (JASIST) has been playing a vital role in the dissemination of scholarly articles in library and information science since 1950. This paper presents the results of a bibliometric study of articles published in the JASIST from 2000 to 2007. It examines the distribution of papers under various headings, including authorship pattern and nature of collaboration, geographic distribution of articles, nature of cited and citing references, prolific authors and highly cited authors. Data were collected using the Web of Science and analyzed using Microsoft Excel. Results indicate that during the sample period the rate of publication was uneven and the most prominent form of publication was articles. The trend of authorship pattern of articles is towards collaboration and authors from 47 countries contributed articles. The country-wise distribution reveals that the highest number of contributions was made by US authors followed by the UK. The number of references cited per article increased from 2000—2007 whereas articles received citations in decreasing numbers during the same period. The results suggest that articles need to have been published for more than 2 years before they receive adequate numbers of citations.

Abstract: Extending a theme introduced in one of the author’s earlier articles appearing in the October 2009 edition of the IFLA Journal, this paper investigates rarely identified similarities between the information-seeking process and activities associated with the reading of fiction in order to present a case for school librarians adopting principles that both promote reader development and help to foster information literacy. Themes relating to such issues as user behaviour, the nature of information itself and library practices are addressed. The article draws heavily on the ideas of Van Riel and Fowler, who have written a highly regarded book on reader development. Various practical suggestions that may contribute to both young people’s information literacy and their development as readers are offered for intermediaries. The paper concludes with some caveats, however, and the dangers of the recommended approach are honestly acknowledged.

Abstract: The discovery of relevant research in the field of international education can be difficult due to the nature of the field and how scholarly work is indexed. This article presents a review of published international education literature to identify key topics and publication patterns, along with potential gaps and inequities in current scholarly discourse. Using the keywords “international education” and “global education,” the analyses focus on records retrieved from Web of Science. Of the 1492 peer-reviewed journal articles reviewed (published from 1991 to 2017), the analyses revealed only 705 articles relevant to the field of international education. Additional analyses of bibliometric data show a significant increase in international education publication over the past two decades; evolving trends regarding topical foci and methods; and publication disparities regarding national contexts and languages outside the Global North/anglophone-dominated discourse. The article concludes with recommendations to improve discoverability, better connect various areas of international education research, and expand scholarly discourse to include more diverse representation.
