Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Abstract
Background
Psychosocial screenings are increasingly being used to identify palliative care needs in cancer patients. These instruments are used for the relatively time-consuming assessment of distress as well as information and care needs and serve as a basis for referral of patients for subsequent diagnostic and therapeutic measures. While computer-based screening methods are increasingly being used, they have not yet been applied in Germany.
Aim and method
The current project on counseling and support of cancer patients and their relatives (Beratung und Unterstützung von Krebspatienten und ihren Angehörigen, BUKA) aims at analyzing if the use of a tablet-based screening for palliative and psychosocial care needs is associated with changes in various clinical end of life quality (EoLQ) indicators. Palliative cancer patients with the entities skin cancer, lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancer and primary brain cancer are included in a longitudinal study with two time points, screening and 8-week follow-up. Among the variables assessed are physical symptoms and psychosocial distress as well as information and care needs. In a qualitative pilot study, patients reported high levels of acceptance of the tablet-based screening procedure.
