Coloured Sulphur Deposits at Low Temperatures

Abstract

F. O. RICE obtained green, purple and black deposits by chilling sulphur vapour at liquid-air temperature1. Several parameters of the experiments, predominantly the vapour temperature, determine the colour. With the help of equilibrium data of the vapour composition2 Rice has concluded that the yellow deposits arise from cyclo-S8, green ones from catena-S8 and purple to black ones from S2.
